THE REPTILIAN-HUMAN CONNECTION
By: John Rhodes 81994

INTRODUCTION

My name is John Rhodes and I am a researcher, explorer and lecturer in
the realms of ufology, occulted archaeology and metaphysics. In this
report, I will be providing you with compelling evidence, gathered
over many years of research, as to our genealogical connections with
the overlord reptilian alien race and the occulted historical
archaeology that clearly demonstrates that these reptilian beings have
coexisted on this planet Earth with us for thousands of years prior to
our current era.

The reason that I place an emphasis on archaeology and metaphysics is
because, in my opinion, they are the key elements to unlocking the
secrets of the UFO phenomenon that surrounds us all in these trying
times of ours. The result of the research that I am about to provide
to you is not compiled by myself alone. These theories those of
individuals, like myself, that have endured immense difficulties and
danger in order to unveil that which has been hidden from the public
for many, many years. These individuals remain unknown at present due
to reasons of survival, however, it is not only our duty, but it is
time to unveil this information for all to hear, see and contemplate
upon, for we are about to shift our shared reality.

Today, we are all witnessing a simultaneous deterioration of
geopolitical and geological stability, increase of UFO abduction
related phenomenon and a rapidly changing climatological environment.
The psychological pressure associated with these shifts in reality is
compounded by the fact that many believe that we are experiencing the
unfolding of prophecies handed down to us by generations passed.

We have all been told through the prophecies of many religions and
cultures around the world that our generation will witness the
unveiling or the "revelation" of the true reality in which we live.
Our species is struggling with impeding global disaster brought upon
us by natural and man made causes, thus we find ourselves desperately
reaching into the shadows for answers. I believe that this is no more
evident than in our interest in "New Age."

The information that "New Age" is founded upon is not new at all. Long
ago, secret societies made every effort to remove the truly powerful
esoteric knowledge from public libraries so they could drunkenly abuse
and use it to dominate Earth's inhabitants. Many of the sacred
mysteries that enable one to attain their true source of inner power
have existed here in on the American continent for thousands, if not
hundreds of thousands, of years. UFOs, alien beings, cosmic cycles,
atomic manifestation and other "mysterious phenomenon" still survive
within the legend, myth and lore of the red race of beings known as
the American Indian.

By studying these stories and those of other ancient civilizations, we
can translate the truth into modern day linguistics and expand our
view of the reality in which we belong. Archaic wisdom transforms our
spiritual link with corporeal matter. The words may change and the
cryptic way in which brotherhoods have passed down secrets may have
become more difficult to decipher, but "the truth is out there" for us
to discover . . . if you want it.

I do not question whether or not aliens or their craft are here on our
planet. After all, historical documentation, video tapes, abduction
cases, leaked government information and numerous other data confirm
their existence. The most important question, in my opinion, happens
to be "Who are the main players?" and "How do we fit into the 'big' plan?"

Throughout the history of extraterrestrial contact, many different
types of alien beings have reportedly stated that they are not able to
interfere to any great extent with human beings or their affairs. If
this is true, then why are we receiving an increasingly larger number
of abduction and contactee reports that repeatedly describe two types
of intelligent life forms, those of the Grey and Reptilian aliens? Why
do they have exclusive rights to interfere with our species when other
alien beings do not?

If interaction between these beings and our own species has been
occurring throughout history, as legend and myth would have us
believe, then where is the supporting evidence as to their existence.
Where are they from and why are they so interested in us? Before we
proceed further, lets answer the questions as to who these beings are
and where the historical connections are that reveal their presence.

COLD BLOOD IN ANCIENT SUMERIA

According to the ancient writings and petroglyphs of the area of our
Earth considered to be the cradle of humanity, namely Mesopotamia or
Iraq, there existed a god like race of beings that ruled over a region
of the Tigris-Euphrates river valley known as Sumeria. This society
apparently flourished around 3500 B.C. and was remarkably advanced in
their culture. According to their sand pitted records, their rulers or
"gods" were humanoid creatures of extraterrestrial origin that
descended in magical crafts, or rocket like ships. Their image was
cast into history in the form of reptilian-humanoid statuettes that
over fired to a green hue color.

The surviving clay tablets from this area of the world declare that
before Homosapiens walked upon the Earth, these "gods" did much of
their own manual labor. In order to achieve a higher standard of
living, this nonhuman society genetically created a new form of life
by mixing their own DNA with that of the evolutionary mammalian man or
"Ape-Man." The successful results of this experiment yielded a new
breed of worker class known as Homosapiens.

In the beginning, apparently, these god-like race of beings immensely
enjoyed the benefit of having their slaves endure the hardships of
manual labor. Excavation, farming, building and mining operations were
the toil of this new born race. This labor, however, was not provided
willingly. It was forced through the use of severe and ruthless
governorship.

These, not so bright, beings suffered greatly under the firm rule of
their strange looking gods and their misery did not go unnoticed by a
few of the nonhuman masters. According to the Sumerian tablets, inside
the god society, a conspiracy was brewing to free Homo sapiens from
their bonds of slavery and teach them the spiritual and scientific
knowledge necessary to uplift their essence to a god-like stature.
Apparently, the name of this rebellious reptilian being leader was
Enlil or Ea.

EA EXPERIMENTS IN HIS DEN

The Sumerian tablets tell us that the rebel God called Ea was the
extraterrestrial being that controlled the genetic creation of
Homosapiens in abeyance to the instructions of his superiors. After
his involvement with the original genetic experiment, his compassion
for the plight of the slave race shifted his role as a genetic
engineer to that of a freedom fighter. It is also related that Ea's
headquarters was in a swamp like area he called "Snake Marsh" because
it was also a den to many reptiles or snakes. In other words, the
first fight for freedom took place in an area known as Ea-Den.

It's an interesting point that, according to Biblical text, a snake or
"reptilian" not only seduced Eve, the first female caretaker of the
garden, away from the arms of Adam, but also gave them knowledge in a
beautiful garden called E-DEN. We are also told that this was done
against the wishes of his superior and, as punishment for this
treasonous act, the progressive reptilian and his cohorts were ordered
to remain underground, within the vast cavern systems of the earth.
Along with this punishment, it was ruled that the reptilian was to
never interfere with humans again and that their generations will not
only not know of each other, but will learn to hate each other. This
last declaration was initiated by changing the name of the reptilian
being from "Lucifer" which literally means the bringer of light or
knowledge to "Satan" or adversary. The Sumerian texts also relate a
somewhat similar fate for the reptilian being called Ea.

The teachings of the reptilian Ea, thereafter referred to as the
esoteric mysticism of the snake brotherhood, caused a major shift in
the perceptions of reality for the early Homosapiens. It is in the
assorted descriptions of this turning point in human evolution that we
get our first glimpse as to what these advanced beings actually looked
like in comparison to our own physical characteristics.

THE REBELLIOUS TEACHER

For the sake of mental focus, the following example is taken primarily
from the Christian Bibles Book of Genesis. It's deeply rooted
symbolism is thought, by some people, to be a compilation of occulted
Genesis legend or physical beginnings from all spiritual beings around
the world. This is important to remember because one must be aware of
the fact that I am in no way attempting to push anyone religion in
this presentation. The historical description of reptilian beings
having had a monumental influence on human evolution can be seen in
the multi cultural symbolism and myth surrounding the tree of knowledge.

The symbolical tree of knowledge, the Palm tree in Ea-Den, is depicted
as having a trunk around which a half-man, half-snake being is
entwined. It is from this tree that the rebellious reptilian taught
the human, Eve. As the information was absorbed by Eve and hence
passed onto Adam, their perceptions of awareness and reality quickly
shifted, rendering the two in a severe state of shock and fear (thus,
it is said that a person who is totally unaware of the reality in
which they live, resides in an "Edenic state"). The legend explains
that, soon thereafter, they both ran from the voice of God, not
because they had their first sexual relationship with each other or
that they were shy of their nakedness, it was because they were
suddenly aware that there was a profound physical difference between
the Gods and themselves. The reptilians had scales covering their
bodies as a form of protection from the elements and the Homosapiens
suddenly realized that they didn't. Until this time, the Homo sapiens
had no conception that they were in any way physically different from
their reptilian counterparts. They had finally leapt from their
childlike ignorance of their situation into to the realization that
they were intended, by design, to be tillers of the field and slaves
to the other reptilian overlords.

Years later other messengers also arrived upon the scene and, once
again, attempting to free mankind from the bondage of slavery by
teaching spiritual and magical knowledge. They also were punished
severely by the rulers of the population. One difference was, however,
that instead of being labeled "Satans" or adversaries, one was named
Quetzalcoatl or "Feathered Snake" and the other the Savior Yashua, or
Christ.

The symbolism of the tree of knowledge is not limited to the
Christians, but it is also represented by the Banyan tree from under
whose branches the East Indian God Krishna sat upon a coiled serpent
and bestowed upon man spiritual knowledge. Another reptilian God whose
death upon a crucifix was etched into stone was that of Quetzalcoatl,
the winged serpent god of the great Toltec and Aztec civilization. The
wooden crucifix upon which those that endowed knowledge upon mankind
are crucified represents, not only the sigil of the supreme God called
the Tau or ankh, but the crucifix also represents the trunk and
branches of the tree of knowledge. For their teachings, they were killed.

The remarkable fact is that throughout all ancient and modern
civilizations, the serpent or dragon bestowing knowledge upon the
human race figures prominently in all religions and histories. The
Christian reptilian or "fallen angel" LUCIFER, the Mayan serpent God
QUETZALCOATL, the enormous plumed serpent God of the Hopi Indians,
BAHOLINKONGA, the East Indian mystical human like reptilians known as
NAGAS, the Egyptian serpent God KNEPH, The Phoenicians AGATHODEMON and
even the Hebrews NAKHUSHTAN or Brazen Serpent that led Moses and the
Israelites through the desert by pillar of cloud and fire. These are
but a few of the vast amount of records that exist world wide and
describe their early gods as having reptilian-human like physical
features as well as having descended from the heavens or stars.

From within the shadows and crevices of the earth their influence upon
all mankind can be no more evident than when one considers the ancient
British god who was considered "The Dragon-Ruler of the World." His
subjects called him HU - thus we call ourselves Hu-Man!

REPTILIANS PRESENT - NO ARTISTS/PHOTOGRAPHERS ALLOWED!

One might ask that if these reptilians once openly roamed the Earth
with Homosapiens, why aren't there any pieces of art that clearly
depict them as bipedal snake gods? The answer to that may lay within
one common religious law that most of these ancient cultures still
adhere to, either by their own ignorance of the reptilians physical
appearance or out of pure obedience, and that is the law that one is
forbidden to make idols or drawings of anything that is in heaven.

The Hopi Indians to this day refuse to recreate the images of their
reptilian ancestors because they fear an instant death.

The closest imagery that was ever allowed to remain was cryptically
tucked away in the Hebrew or Christian works of the Books of Genesis
and the Exodus.

As we have already gone over the symbolism of the reptilian in the
cradle of humanity or Garden of Eden, it can only be said that we must
remember that Lucifer was considered an angel who fell from the
heavens. Yet we are told at the same time that he was a snake. And
although Moses declared that his God said not to make idols or images
to false Gods, he placed a snake upon his staff and proclaimed to his
people that he who looks upon this image will be healed. This is the
origination of the physicians' caduceus. Could it be that late one
evening, during a solitary walk outside the Israelite's encampment,
Moses had an encounter with one of these reptilian beings that were
flying this pillar of smoke and fire? Could this have been the reason
he considered this snake upon his staff a real image of God and not a
false one? It makes one wonder.

Obviously, if these snake people or reptilians really did once openly
live amongst the Homosapien population, they have gone to extreme
extent not to be revealed since they went into hiding.

Could it be that part of the great Biblical Revelation prophecy is the
unveiling of the reptilian presence on Earth?

THEY WHO HIDE TRUTH

We are now aware that numerous societies record, as the Sumerians did,
that the reptilian half-man, half-snake empowered Hu-mans with the
knowledge necessary to be free from the grips of their slave masters.
But, what happened to the spiritually powerful knowledge that was
given to us "gardeners of the planet" by the original reptilian Ea as
his cohorts? After all, his plans were to free us from slavery, right?
Well, some would say that we are still enslaved within a carefully
constructed illusion. I would tend to agree. So, what happened? What
has kept us from reaching our fullest potential?

Many of the individuals, in the course of written history, who have
given the masses powerful information, whether it's political or
spiritual, have had either their credibility destroyed or their bodies
destroyed. Most of the times it's both. If the information has taken
root before it can be erased, then history has demonstrated that newly
founded "insurgence" groups or movements are quickly infiltrated by
the opposition and allowed to flourish under the guidance of their own
secret shadows. This is not only a premise by which groups struggle
for control in affairs of war, secret societies and politics, but also
the struggle of balance of power in religion. The mystical knowledge
given to man by the snake brotherhood suffered under this same
manipulation. For thousands of years, the high priests of religion
encrypted the mystical knowledge that was passed onto the humans by
the reptilian race and used that knowledge to control, manipulate and
spiritually enslave those at the bottom of the pyramid.

Reptilian beings displayed both benevolent and evil characteristics at
different times in history. They have taught peace, love,
spirituality, healing and knowledge of the sciences and, as the
Delaware Indians describe in their ancestral mythology, they have
rained down destruction upon the Earth in the name of God. This is why
various cultures recognize the reptilian image as effigies of the
balance of nature. In other words . . . Good-Evil, Negative-Positive.
It is, perhaps, not to far out to imagine that on some other planet or
in some other dimension, the human figure might also symbolize both
aspects of good and evil, positive and negative.

The symbolism and resemblances of each of these god-like beings from
around the world is too similar to have been simple imaginary
god-forms from totally unconnected parts of the planet. There had to
be a more influential factor at work in ancient times, but what could
it have been?

There are three explanations which could answer this puzzling
question. One, primitive cave dwelling settlements around the world
were naturally drawn to the reptilian image because they had somehow
retained a genetic memory of their reptilian heritage. Two, highly
advanced spiritual beings that had reptilian physical characteristics
assimilated themselves into various social structures in order to
influence the trend of spiritual progression. Three, all of the
ancient civilizations sensed their genetic connections to the reptile
AND reptilian beings influenced their spiritual evolution throughout
history. I believe, that both influences were at work and I will
expand on and prove my theory in just a few moments.

It is in this researcher's opinion that these records, when carefully
and open mindedly studied, reflect a historical foundation upon which
all modern day extraterrestrial contacts or abductions can be based.
We have evolved as a species and our progression has been carefully
monitored by the elusive reptilian race that live within the cavernous
Earth itself.

If it is true that we are genetically descended from a mixture of ape
man and a bipedal, intelligent reptilian species, then what evidence,
other than legends and historical documentation supports our theory?
Where lays the personal connection, the physical proof? To answer
these questions, it is important to address a little known fact
regarding the formation of the human embryo in the womb.

THE PHYSICAL CONNECTION

During the formative stages of intrauterine development, the fetus
undergoes several different phases of genetically encoded evolution.
Deep within the information pool of the gene, instructions are given
to the forming cells to repeat the major evolutionary steps that link
us to the non primate mammals, reptiles and fish before we finally
reach the recognizable form of the human being. At one point, our
primordial genetic information even creates gills for the embryo.
These, of course, disappear as development continues. In the fourth
week, the human embryo is remarkably similar to the embryos of birds,
pigs and sheep and remains that way until the eighth week, then it
takes on dissimilar physical characteristics.

In some cases of evolutionary throwback, as according to the Oxford
Monographs on Medical Genetics no. 27, the genetic chain of command
sometimes forgets to continue onwards in their evolutionary
reenactment, leaving some babies with actual tails. These "caudal
appendages," as they are called, form at the lower lumbar area and are
generally hairless. Although most of these cases are immediately
attended to by surgeons in order to protect the families from adverse
ridicule, in some third worlds countries where surgery is unavailable,
the children quickly adapt to their tails and live out normal lives.
It is interesting to note that in some of these cases the tail wags
during moments of excitation.

Now that we have covered the fact that passing glimpses into our
evolutionary heritage can be witnessed during the formation of our
fetuses, we can proceed to discover which part of this re enactment
was so pronounced that it permanently formed within us and provided
our strongest primordial link.

One late evening I happened to be watching a television interview with
Carl Sagan in which the audience members were asking him questions.
When asked what he thought of the crop circle phenomenon, He replied,
and I'll paraphrase here, "Don't you know that it has been proven that
all of these, so-called crop circles, are hoaxes created by two
gentlemen in England. They've admitted it." He went on to say that the
media loves a UFO angle and that they purposely ignore the confessions
of two older gentlemen in order to sensationalize. When I heard this,
I thought that there's no way that a man as intelligent as he claims
to be could be so blatantly ignorant, that is unless he is the mouth
piece of the federal government. If that was the case, then it is only
human nature to wonder what's in it for him.

It is in my opinion that the information about our genetic heritage
and relationship with the reptilian alien beings that live on our
planet was shared with Mr. Sagan as a gift for his expected continued
secrecy and servitude to certain authorities within the federal
government. Accompanying this "gift" of truth, I believe, was a
promise of increased fame and fortune in return for his performing the
duties of disinformation in regards to the flying saucer phenomenon
this is why he has continually ridiculed anything that even hints of
extraterrestrial contact. As long as he plays "their" game of
information management, he will be allowed to release certain
information in a very unobtrusive and cryptic fashion. All this, of
course, was done under the watchful eyes of his superiors. Evidence of
a portion of this "leak" is written within the pages of his book The
Dragons of Eden in which "speculates" upon the evolution of human
intelligence.

In Mr. Sagan's aptly named book The Dragons of Eden, it is emphasized
that in our search for the evolution of human intelligence, it is
extremely important that we do not ignore the most ancient part of the
human brain upon which all other segments are but additions. According
to the neuroanatomist Paul MacLean, that ancient area of the "triune"
brain, is driven by another prehistoric region that some
neuroanatomist call the R-Complex or the Reptilian-Complex. It is
called the R-Complex because we share this particular structure of the
brain with reptiles.

Mr. Sagan carefully points out the fact that the human brain develops
from the inside out, building itself atop the brain stem and in order
of evolutionary sequence. First, the neural chassis, which regulates
the heart, blood and respiration, is grown. After this has occurred,
the R-complex, the area of the brain that is thought to house the most
primordial intelligence, is developed. The limbic system and neocortex
are later additions to this central core.

MacLean also states that the R-complex plays an important role in the
aggressive behavior, territoriality, ritualism and establishment of
social hierarchies. (which, by the way, are behavioral and social
qualities that are frequently expressed by reptilian beings during
abductions and contacts) Much or our own behavior as human beings is
ruled by this archaic region of the brain, and as Mr. Sagan himself so
eloquently phrases it . . .

"It does no good whatsoever to ignore the reptilian component of human
nature, particularly our ritualistic and hierarchical behavior. On the
contrary, the model may help us understand what human beings are all
about."

Throughout The Dragons of Eden, one can find other subtle hints as to
his true knowledge of our genetic connection with the reptilian beings
that have played an important role in our species existence. He
mentions how much of our behavior is even expressed in reptilian
terms, such as "cold blooded" killer and that the common human sounds
commanding silence or attracting attention being that of hissing
snakes. These and other clues pervade his book right down to the M.C.
Escher illustration of two reptilian iguanas floating in a
three-dimensional Star of David in space.

Along with the fact that the pheromone of women and female iguanas are
a chemical match(Omni, May 94), here lie the reasons why the reptilian
beings are so interested in our genetic evolution. We are more
physically and mentally connected to reptiles than previously
understood, so their interest in us is justified when one realizes
that we may be, as myth and legends have related, actual reptilian
genetic offspring. This connection may now allow one to understand why
the abductions and clinical experimentation on humans beings are being
carried out by the elusive reptilian race. It may also be because some
things never change, even since the days of Eden.

I cannot, however, complete this discussion about Carl Sagan without
quoting a passage from his book for it truly brings forth that which
Mr. Sagan has tried to hide between the lines.

G.K. Chesterton once wrote:

"You can free things from alien or accidental laws, but not from the
laws of their own nature . . . Do not go about . . . encouraging
triangles to break out of the prison of their three sides. If a
triangle breaks out of its three sides, its life comes to a lamentable
end."

(By the way, I find it somewhat bewildering that someone who
understands the reptilian part of the brain so well is named Sagan,
because his name spelled backwards is that of the mystical east Indian
reptilian Gods, the-NAGAS!)

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW

As reported in the beginning of this discussion, reptilians have
coexisted on this planet with us since history began. And, as eluded
to in Genesis, divisions of these reptilians remained behind in the
cavernous regions of the Earth whilst the creators ventured outward
across the face of the deep waters or space.

Legends from different parts of the globe all tell of underworld
inhabited by mystical beings of varied forms. I believe that the
reptilian races, consisting of both benevolent and evil beings, still
reside to this day underground, hidden away in the dark crevices of
the Earth and in the depths of the oceans. The evidence supporting
this proclamation is also available through recent reports and
historical documentation.

First, and most important, is our understanding that our own United
States government has duped us to believe that the wonders of the
universe lie beyond our reach. That our progress to understanding who
and what we are as intelligent, life forms rest solely on the efforts
of the inept workings of NASA, JPL and a myriad of other money sucking
aerospace corporations. Almost fifty years of continued rat
experiments outside the envelope of our planet and we are to believe
that this is the ultimate pace of human exploration! This is
absolutely not the case. Publicly viewed space exploration is nothing
more that a magic show and, as most people realize, when the magician
says to look at his right hand, his left is doing all the work. Such
is the case with exploration. If you really want to get to see the big
show, don't look above your head, look below your feet.

Investigation into the interior of the Earth began with map surveyors
and explorers venturing out into unknown territory in order to chart
the wilderness. Once in a while, they'd come across a cave or cavern
and then descend into its depths to hopefully find treasures or
artifacts. Once these hollowed out recesses of the Earth along the
coastlines were discovered, their location was kept secret and certain
groups of individuals purchased the properties. They used, and still
use, their subterranean chambers for illegal activities, social
gatherings or modes of concealed travel for reasons of their own. Some
say that Washington, D.C. was purposely established above a huge
catacomb, so certain Freemasonic fraternities and the like could
utilize their hidden corridors while governing the nation. I believe
that may have been the case.

Large oil interests modernized seismic technology and geological
exploration with an ever increasing pace. Due to this wave of
subsurface exploration, more and more artifacts were discovered that
defied mainstream historical and explanation. As these artifacts were
collected by USGS and Smithsonian Institution employees, they were
concealed from the public, carefully studied by unknown entities
within and outside of the Federal administration and then mysteriously
lost.

As years wore on, more and more mystifying archaeological discoveries
were made. Those who studied these artifacts were well aware of the
fact that things were not as they appeared to be, so it must have been
of little surprise to these scientists and archaeologists when Kenneth
Arnold spotted his first UFO or flying

DINO-Saucer vehicle while flying his private airplane over Washington
state June 24th, 1947.

It was also around this time that our government began to build a vast
web bunker systems connected by tube shuttles. After all, they were
now dealing with a highly advanced species that could wipe out a
surface structure with no problem as well as a cold war threat with
the former Soviet Union. Ensuring governmental survival was a
priority. It was also around this time in history that underground
nuclear testing was being performed for military and peaceful
purposes. One such series of tests was called project Plowshare.

DULCE BASE - ALTERNATE PERCEPTIONS

In the early 1960s, a subterranean nuclear blast occurred about 30
miles southwest of Dulce, New Mexico right off U.S. 64. This nuclear
blast was conducted under the umbrella project Plowshare, and was
named project Gassbuggy. It has recently been alleged that this
particular subsurface nuclear blast was used to create a hollowed out
chute or chimney for development of a substation for a super secret
tunnel system attached to an underground black book project base known
as Dulce Base.

According to Thomas Edwin Castello, a former Dulce Base security
officer, this particular underworld city is a highly secret base
operated by humans as well as reptilian aliens and their worker cast,
the commonly encountered greys. It is here, apparently, that a
multitude of experimentation projects are carried out. The projects
are, apparently, primarily genetic in nature and are carried out
either men, women or children that have been declared missing by
authorities. There is a myriad of other specialty science projects
taking place at Dulce base including, but not limited to, Atomic
manipulation, cloning, studies of the human aura, advanced mind
control applications, animal/human crossbreeding, visual and audio
wiretapping, the list goes on.

If it was true that this base existed long before human occupation,
then it construction and layout may possibly tell us something about
its original occupants, the reptilians. We know this because the
sacred teachings of ancient metaphysics relate that imagery created by
ritualistic and intelligent beings often contain information occulted
in symbolism.

The Dulce base floor plan was illustrated, as per the originals by
Thomas Castello, and released in 1994. When inspected carefully, it's
layout appears to be extremely well planned.

From a vertical viewpoint, it resembles a wheel with a central hub and
corridors radiating outwards like spokes. This "hub" is the focal
point of the entire base. It is surrounded by central security and
extends through all levels of the base. I believe this core to be the
Achilles heel of the entire facility. It probably contains fiber optic
communications and power lines. This would justify its highly guarded
and central location as well as explain its vertical continuation
through all levels. With all communication lines and power lines
focused towards the hub, it is possible that any level could be
completely "locked down" by its own security or the security hubs from
either above or below its own level. This would provide maximum
control over the entire facility.

The "spokes" or corridors radiating away from the central hub, lead to
numerous other labs in five different directions. Connect the spokes
and a pentagon is revealed in its design. From above, this base
resembles the layout of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Complete with
halls, walls and military insignias! Since we do not have the exact
heading of its corridors, magnetic alignments are impossible to determine.

When viewed laterally, its appearance takes on the look of a tree with
a trunk at its center and its floors extending outwards like the
branches. If this is a facility of science, then one could easily say
that its lateral appearance is like that of the tree of knowledge. Was
this purposely designed this way or does it just happen to be a
coincidence?

The overall design of this facility reminds one of a multi stacked
subterranean Hopi Indian kiva. Although I believe that it's somewhat
of a disservice to the Hopi to even be spoken of in association with a
cave of horrors like the Dulce Base, its similarity in design should
not be forgotten.

As cultures around the world tend to bring their own styles of
architecture with them during periods of migration, so perhaps did the
advanced civilization that original built Dulce Base. And, if the
reptilian influence over man is as great as archaic documentation and
myth would have one believe, then there have to be other subterranean
dwellings similar to this in other locations.

If we locate another subsurface habitation similar in appearance to
the Dulce base and linked it to a reptilian or snake legend, we will
have obtained supporting evidence as to the reality of the Dulce
facility and our reptilian overlords. In my personal quest to
investigate and discover these connections, my journey led took me to
the mystical land of the North American Indians. The Four Corners of
the world.

HOPI - THE REPTILIAN EXAMPLE OF SPIRITUALITY?

In the southwestern region of the United States, specifically the four
corners area of Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico, one can find
remnants of the most ancient of all American Indian cultures. The Hopi
Indian tribe.

The Hopi live out their fairly non progressive and ritualistic lives
atop mesas on a reservation located in the north eastern portion of
Arizona. They originated from the eastern part of the Grand Canyon and
slowly migrated eastward to where they reside today. Surrounded by the
progressive and formerly nomadic Navaho nation, they await the
forthcoming Great Purification or, as many people call it, the day of
Revelation.

The religion and myth of the Hopi Indian are based upon the worship of
the snake. Their legend of Genesis also recounts how reptilians or
snake people played an important part in their ancestry.

Today, the ancestors of the Hopi tribes are referred to as their Snake
brothers or El-der brothers and their reverence towards their
reptilian ancestors is evident throughout all ceremonies of the Hopi
Indians. When their most sacred of all underground kiva rituals are
performed, that of the Snake dance, rattlesnakes are present to hear
their prayers. These snakes are then later released into the
wilderness so as they can return to the gods of the Underworld with
the tribes prayers.

According to Hopi myth, they used to live in a great subterranean
underworld alongside a race of beings called the Ant people. These Ant
people, which might by today's standards be considered grey aliens,
helped feed and clothe the Hopi during their lives in the Underworld.
One day, under the direction of their matriarchal Goddess Spider
woman, they ascended to the surface by way of a hollowed bamboo shoot
which sprung forth through an opening in the ceiling of their cave
called the Sipapuni.

They say that soon after their arrival on the surface, a mocking bird
came along and confused the language of the Hopi, the results of which
encouraged them to break up into small clans of different languages.
This is remarkably similar to the story of the Tower of Babel. One day
soon there after, an exceedingly bright star, or star-ship, appeared
above them in the sky. Believing it was a God, they followed it during
it's journey across the sky. They did so until it stopped in one
place. When it stopped, some of the Hopi remained and settled. When
the star later appeared, the other Hopi followed it until it stopped
once again. This continued until all the Hopi were settled. This is
the Hopi description of the original planting of their race.

The myths of the Hopi Genesis would be considered, as others, based
upon fantasy and imagination if it wasn't for one, solitary discovery
that was made by a man traveling down the Colorado river aboard a
skiff in the Grand Canyon almost ninety-five years ago. That mans name
was Kincaid and his discovery was that of the Hopi Indian underworld
or the Sipapuni.

THE GREATEST STORY EVER ATTEMPTED TO BE TOLD

On March 12th, 1909, a small article appeared in the Arizona Gazette
newspaper announcing the arrival in of a man by the name of G.E.
Kincaid, who had just completed a Colorado river rafting trip from
Green River, Wyoming. He stated that he enjoyed his trip and planned
on returning the following winter for another run at the Colorado
River. He also mentioned his discovery of some "interesting artifacts"
which he was mailing to the Smithsonian Institution.

Three weeks, three days later on April 5th, 1909, a front page article
appeared in the Arizona Gazette (article attached to this report) in
which Kincaid is interviewed in detail about his archaeological find.
This discovery of Kincaids, as notably remarked in the article, was to
be considered the most significant archaeological find in the world
throughout all history.

As the article is quite long and detailed, I will only briefly repeat
the most important facts concerning this discovery that will help us
throw light upon our search.

Mr. Kincaid had apparently discovered a massive underground city that
was cut into a wall of the Grand Canyon with the precision equaled
only to that of the Great Pyramid. The highly advanced civilization
that inhabited this subterranean city was of unknown origin, although
several different artifacts were found, such as a Buddha, mummies and
hieroglyphics, that were of Oriental, Egyptian and central American
origin.

As the Smithsonian Institution archaeological team, spearheaded by a
professor S.A. Jordan, continued their treks into the depths of this
city, they discovered hundreds of rooms. Some rooms were as small as
an average living room and others as large as several hundred feet in
length and breadth. It was estimated that the area explored so far by
the team could have comfortably housed fifty thousand people!

The location of this discovery was veiled in secrecy because, as Mr.
Kincaid put it "They don't want to be disturbed." His only clues were
that is was about 42 miles north of the Crystal creek. After the
completion of his interview and the printing of this story the next
day in the Arizona Gazette newspaper, not a single thing was ever
mentioned about it again publicly until the original article
resurfaced once again three years ago. So spin the wheels of secrecy
and conspiracy.

THE DULCE-SIPAPUNI-REPTILIAN CONNECTION

Upon reviewing the article in detail, I was able to discern Three
immensely important clues as to whom the occupants and their rulers
may have been. The first clue has to do with the Sipapuni's builders
or stone masons.

If there is an underground city in the Grand Canyon that is large
enough to house fifty thousand people, as Kincaid would have us
believe, then the engineering skills needed to construct such a
underworld would have rivaled those used to create the Great Pyramid
of Gizeh and the other highly engineered stone fortresses and temple
platforms that are scattered across the Earth. Except for Kincaids
remarks as to the antiquity of this underground citadel, he said that
it appears to have been built many years previous to the Christian
era. Could it have been built in the same era as was the Great
Pyramid? Could it have been created by the same hands that built the
other anomalous structures around the world?

These questions become even more intriguing when one realizes another
absolutely fantastic "coincidence." It has been seriously speculated
by many well-known researchers and archaeologists that the original
great Pyramid may have been built under the direction of the Sumerian
reptilian gods and by the labor of the first Mediterranean and world
travelers called the Phoenicians. Is it just another coincidence that
not far from this area of Arizona lies the great city if Phoenix and
that the inhabitants refer to themselves as Phoenicians? Was this some
strange coincidence or is it an occulted signature from those in the know?

The second clue is the fact that is that when Kincaid discovered the
Sipapuni, he discovered a floor plan that was remarkable similar to
that of the Dulce Base. In Kincaids own words that he describes the
Sipapuni floor plan as having "a mammoth chamber from which radiates
scores of passageways, like the spokes of a wheel." This is the same
configuration as to that of Dulce Base, the underground facility that
is reported to have been originally occupied by the reptilian being
species.

The third, and most important, factor is that both underground worlds
are associated with reptilian beings. Thomas Castello, the man
claiming to have been a former security officer in the Dulce Base,
said that the commanders of the nonhuman grey alien beings were
humanoid reptilian creatures that were tall and had vertical slit
pupils. The Hopi mythology and oral traditions, on the other hand,
state that their EL-der brothers had snake forms and were the rulers
of the underworld. These two perspectives are strikingly similar, with
the only difference being that one is derived from history and the
other from our present era.

In all, there exists a combination of three important elements that
are apparently shared by both underground facilities or cities. One,
they are both huge underground cities. Two, they both have a similar
floor plan design and Three, they are both associated with reptilian
overlords. Are these associations coincidental or are we beginning to
reveal a pattern of some sort?

Most importantly, after three years of intense research and field
explorations into the Grand Canyon area, I believe that I have finally
located the Hopi Sipapuni underworld that G.E. Kincaid initially
discovered in 1909. I have acquired physical evidence indicating
anomalous activity occurring during that time period, new
interpretations of an ancient Hopi prophecy supports the "story" of
Kincaids discovery and I, and a close colleague of mine, have stood
upon the same ground where Kincaid once stood in awe.

Evidence of this recent discovery has been relayed to several key
people across the United States for security purposes. A more detailed
report of this discovery is forthcoming and will be made available to
the public in the very near future.

SUMMATION

Various pieces of evidence accumulatively indicate a strong
relationship between the human and reptilian species. Mytho-histories
of aboriginal tribes across the world record their presence on the
surface of the Earth. Underground cities that are reported to exist in
the southwestern United States, such as Dulce base and the Hopi Indian
Sipapuni, appear to have been constructed by reptilian beings,
experiencer reports continue to describe contacts with nonhuman life
forms that have a reptilian anatomy and the human brain reminds us of
how the human race evolved from reptiles.. This reptiliform influence
is more than just symbolism. It appears to be a manifested reality in
our lives that refuses to disappear.

The reptilian beings are on Earth now, they always have been on this
planet and, if we can overcome our inherent fear of the reptilian
image and understand how it has been used against us, we will one day
realize that, although we are physically different, we are from the
same primordial essence.

I LEAVE YOU WITH ONE LAST THOUGHT

I end this article with one last thing for you to think about and that
is that as we near the end of the millennium, several prophecies
appear to be becoming fulfilled. The most important one being
witnessed in Mexico City which is built upon the ancient Aztec capital
Tenochtitlan. It is here that during the solar eclipse in 1991, a
gradually escalating wave of UFO sightings began and continue to this
day. Could this signal, as once promised long ago, the return of the
plumed feathered serpent God Quetzalcoatl? Time will tell

United States Patent 1096102: The Hollow Earth Theory by Mark Harp This article was published first in the January, 1995 issue of NEXUS, international science and freedom magazine. If unaltered, anyone is welcome to use this article. I permanently will retain the rights. On November 25, 1912 Marshall B. Gardner of Aurora, Kane County, Illinois, USA, submitted his discovery application to the United States Patent Office. 18 months later, on May 12,1914, this federal agency granted Mr. Gardner United States patent 1096102, the second most important scientific document ever issued. Its scientific significance is exceeded only by the mechanical flight discovery of Orville and Wilbur Wright in 1903. For reasons which even Mr. Gardner could not have fully anticipated in the early 1900s, and which are now abundantly clear, his discovery soon became the most highly classified military secret of all time. In 1913 Gardner wrote his original book proving beyond any doubt that our Earth is a hollow sphere. So voluminous was the evidence which he continued to amass from studies of astronomy and Polar exploration, that he expanded his book to 450 pages in 1920. The title is A JOURNEY TO THE EARTH'S INTERIOR or HAVE THE POLES REALLY BEEN DISCOVERED? Although he seems not to have been aware of it, Gardner's work had incompletely been preceded by William Reed, whose book PHANTOM OF THE POLES was 281 pages and was published in 1906 New York City by the Walter S. Rockey Company. The one shortcoming with Mr. Reed's theory, otherwise very intelligently developed, was that he had failed to finish his centrifugal force reasoning regarding Earth's formation As a result, he was never able to logically account for the powerful source of heat and illumination present in the Earth's Interior. Gardner, on the other hand, did account for this source. The difference is that whereas Reed confined his research strictly to Polar exploration, Gardner augmented this with studies of astronomy. The majority of this article will be testimony from the real experts, the people who were there at the huge telescopes and especially there in those vast and previously mysterious Polar regions. But first, this is the common sense theory responsible for United States patent 1096102. In the beginning, some 4 or 5 billion years ago, when the Earth was still an enormously expanded ball of superhot whirling gas, it gradually began to contract as it cooled. The laws of physics require cooling gases to condense and so the rapidly spinning sphere of tenuous gases began to concentrate as the heat loss continued. Self-centered gravitational attraction kept reducing the diameter of the whirling ball of cooling material...but only to a certain extent. This is the big logical distinction between the old inadequate theory of planetary formation and Gardner's discovery. The old notion would have us believe that the gravitational contraction continued unabated until the Earth had become molten hot under a fierce gravitational pressure. While such a scenario undoubtedly does routinely occur in the celestial evolution of particularly immense bodies, as is the case with all stars, it is definetly not the final development of typical planets. The crucial second factor to lay stress on is centrifugal force. Remember that while gravity is attempting to draw all of the material toward the center, there is an opposing force also at work centrifugal force. Just as a figure skater spins much more rapidly when she brings her outstretched arms tightly in against her body, so too did the ever contracting proto-planet begin rotating ever more rapidly as its size decreased. Like the glued water in a bucket that refuses to spill if one swings the bucket in a fast circle, so too was this same law of motion centrifugal force attempting to hurl all of the material outward from the forming planet's axis of rotation. So finally, in this silent titanic struggle between two natural forces, a balance was struck. When the swiftly whirling sphere had drawn itself down to an approximately 8000 mile diameter, the compromise between gravitational and centrifugal force was reached. But there is more. There is a special characteristic of centrifugal force and we must not overlook this important trait. The strength of 'c' force becomes greatly lessened as it approachs right angles to the direction of spin. A simple day-to-day example of this behavior is water in a basin. If you remove the drain plug and allow the water to start emptying from the basin, what will you eventually observe? A vortex or whirlpool, an empty space surrounded by rapidly rotating material. Now imagine this same principal in action concerning the contracting body which was to become our Earth. At right angles to the rotational axis, in other words the 'poles', the c force was considerably weaker than elsewhere, especially the equator, therefore although at the Earth's equator the c force was able to halt the material's inward progress at about an 8000 mile diameter, it was considerably less successful in the Polar regions, there stopping the contraction at about 1400 miles. The inevitable outcome of this natural compromise is that our planet concluded its evolution and solidified as an 8000 mile hollow sphere with 1400 mile diameter Polar Openings. Now it is at this stage in the logic that Gardner advances and Reed falters. Because of his study of astronomical records and photography as specifically relating to nebula and comets, Gardner became aware of the whole truth. In the precise center of these translucent spheres is a proportionally small incandescent ball. Between this luminous interior orb and the shell of the nebula is a large intervening space; said another way, the nebula is hollow except for the bright sphere in its center. Why? Well, where is the one other location at at which c force is quite weak, besides at the poles? The answer of course is at the precise center of rotation, and once again the logic is so straightforward that we may readily examine a common household example to support the arguement. What would be the result if you sprinkled a layer of powder upon the top of a record player and then turned the record on high speed? The powder would fly off of the record...except for a small portion at the precise center. Based upon his studies of the planetary nebula through observatory photographs, Gardner was able to surmise that the very thick shell of the Earth is approximately 800 miles thick, the Polar Openings 1400 miles across, and the gravitationally suspended Central Sun (the incandescent orb locked by gravity in the exact planetary center) some 600 miles diameter. Because of the enormity and very gradual curve of the Polar Aperture, it is impossible to visually detect it; this is the same as the fact that we do not 'see' that the Earth itself is round. The curve is much too gradual to observe. Based on the nearly constant merger of warm interior air with very cold exterior Polar air, the Polar Openings are almost always covered by a thick cloud layer. This explains why when viewed from satellites the openings look just as they would if there actually were the mythical 'polar ice caps' which government policy claims are at the Earth's extremities. Gardner was led inexorably to his monumental science discovery by the vast quantity of inconsistent information which he continually encountered during his years of study dealing with, especially, high Arctic expeditions. Chief among the numerous mysteries are 1) a dramatically improving climate in the very far north, 2) the extreme peculiarity of the famous Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis, and 3) the eccentric behavior of the compass in very high latitudes. We shall now proceed to hear from many witnesses who forfeited much comfort, convenience, and in several cases their lives, in order that we may fully understand the true greatness of our world, a world vastly more spectacular than officially acknowledged. In the preface of THREE YEARS OF ARCTIC SERVICE, Lt. Adolphus Greely of the U.S. Army expresses the amazement of his Lady Franklin Bay expedition at the strange conditions they experienced in the far north: "Fearing exaggeration, I have occasionally modified statements and opinions entered in my original journal, believing it better to underrate than enlarge the wonders of the Arctic regions, which have been too often questioned." Before focusing on our own world, let us look briefly at some of our interesting neighbors in Space. Renowned astronomer Percival Lowell comments on page 33 of MARS: "...round what we know to be the planet's pole, appeared to be a great white cap...It proceeded slowly to dwindle in size...As summer comes on, they dwindle gradually away, till by early autumn they present but tiny patches a few hundred miles across ...As it melted, a dark band appeared surrounding it on all sides...it was the darkest marking upon the disk, and was of a blue color." The temptation to think of this blue perimeter as water must be avoided because if this were indeed prodigous volumes of water, it would frequently be coursing through the many ancient riverbeds which crisscross the dry Martian surface. These riverbeds are permanently dry. Instead what we are really observing is the optical effect of vast cloud masses moving over the curving sides of the Martian polar aperture. The exterior of Mars experiences changing seasons; the interior does not. The degree to which atmospheric moisture and temperature vary at the pole, where the differing climates converge, will determine the amount to which the immense blue ring will manifest itself in terrestrial telescopes. Being unaware of the true configuration of Mars, Lowell naturally believed that this blue polar band had to be water melted from an ice cap. In this assumption, though incorrect, he showed his wisdom. Unlike our present government policy, he knew absolutely that the pole of Mars cannot be carbon dioxide. Page 81: "Faraday made experiments on the relation of the congealing point of carbonic acid gas to the pressure...He further found that the curve for the liquifaction point lay very close to that for the congealing point, and approached yet closer as the pressure decreased. In other words, the gas passed almost immediatly from the gaseous to the solid state...Now the pressure is certainly very slight on the surface of Mars...In consequence, on a rise of temperature the frozen carbonic acid gas would there pass practically straight from the solid into the gaseous state. Now, from the existence of the surrounding polar sea, we remark that in the substance composing the polar caps of Mars this does not occur. A considerable portion of it is always in the transition state of a liquid. Carbonic dioxide would not thus tarry: water would." Lowell made a particularly fascinating observation of the north polar opening when, for a short period, a portion of the usual cloud cover parted, thereby allowing beams of light from Mars' central sun to project beyond the orifice. "Meanwhile an interesting phenomenon occurred in the cap on June 7...as I was watching the planet, I saw suddenly two points like stars flash out in the midst of the polar cap. Dazzlingly bright upon the duller white background of the snow, these stars shone for a few moments and then slowly disappeared. The seeing at the time was very good... But though no intelligence lay behind the action of these lights, they were none the less startling for being Nature's own flash lights across one hundred millions of miles of space. It had taken them nine minutes to make the journey;...On comparing its position with Green's map of his observations upon the cap at Madiera in 1877, it appeared that this was the identical position of the spot where he had seen star points then, and where Mitchell had seen them in 1846, ...Meanwhile the cap had been steadily decreasing in size,...On October 12, at lOh.40m.,...Mr. Douglas measured its position and estimated its size, as was his wont every few days. He found it to be six degrees distant from the planet's pole...On looking at the planet on October 13, at 8h.15m., to his surprise he found the cap gone. Not a trace of it could be seen;...What had certainly been there on the 12th was not there on the 13th. The ice-cap had disappeared." Robert Powers remarks in MARS: OUR FUTURE ON THE RED PLANET: "There seem to be vast quantities of water in the polar caps,...Like the ice caps of Earth, they are bright white." Thomas McDonough says in SPACE: THE NEXT 25 YEARS 'Mars also has large, bright ice caps, which can even be seen from the Earth with a good telescope." In THE GREATEST CHALLENGE: The Incredible Adventure and Splendid Destiny Man in Exploring Space Martin Caidin notes that " Both American and Russian astronomers in recent years have observed a series of very bright flashes, lasting about five minutes, and followed by mushroomshaped clouds." Original Moon explorer Michael Collins writes in MISSION TO MARS "A greater mystery is what happened to all the water and ice that gouged out those huge channels billions of years ago. Mars has a strong enough gravitational field to hold water vapor in its atmosphere rather than allow it to escape into space...What happened to all the water that carved out deep channels?" John Noble Wilford says in MARS BECKONS: "Mariners 6 and 7 ...The camera photographed a hood of clouds over the south polar cap, and infrared instruments measured temperatures there as low as 193 degrees Fahrenheit...The infrared spectrometer had appeared to detect temperatures at the edge of the south polar ice cap that were much too high to be from frozen carbon dioxide...scientists could see by the Soviet document that the range of possibilities for the 1994 flight was wide and challenging. Under serious consideration were plans to place two spacecraft into orbits of Mars passing over the poles." On page 22 of the March-April 1992 Final Frontier are some remarks about the planet nearest to the Sun, Mercury: "...temperatures that climb as high as 800 degrees Fahrenheit...Researchers at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena have identified what they believe is a water ice cap more than 180 miles in diameter on Mercury's north pole...the researchers saw a bright area at the north pole...'We were amazed'." Marshall Gardner devotes 27 pages of his book to the study of preliminary planets, better known as nebula. Here are a few comments. "The spectroscope supplies the answer...the spectroscope has proven absolutely that the nebula is not made up of stars...the typical nebula has a remarkable shell-like structure and a central star...a search made with a spectrograph and the Lick 36 inch telescope for rotation effects...Definite evidence of rotation was found..." On page 63, in reference to comets as being planets in the process of destruction, Gardner writes "Hecter MacPherson tells us in his book, THE ROMANCE OF MODERN ASTRONOMY that the great comet of 1811, with a tail stretching for a hundred million miles behind and fifteen million miles in breadth, had a nucleus that according to measurements by Herschell was only 428 miles in diameter. The comet of Donati, detected from a Florence observatory in 1858, had a nucleus which 'shone with a brilliance equal to that of the Polar Star' and which was 630 miles in diameter...'even in the short period of man's life comets have been seen to break up and disappear'." Included in his many observations concerning Mars, Gardner points out that besides the numerous reports of the Martian pole being very bright and making rapid size changes, "...the light from the polar region of Mars is a direct illuminant from within the planet, because that light, seen at night, is yellow. Any other sort of light, a reflection from a snowy surface, for instance, or a reflection from sand or mountain surfaces, would be white." On page 80, Gardner displays eight excellent photographs of Mars recorded at the Yerkes observatory and which show the "...so-called snow-cap, projected beyond the planet's surface, which precludes all possibility of its being snow or ice." In writing of the English astronomer J. Norman Lockyer's report to the Royal Astronomical Society of England: "'The snow-zone was at times so bright that, like the crescent of the young moon, it appeared to project beyond the planet's limb. This effect of irradiation was frequently visible; on one occasion the snow-spot was observed to shine like a nebulous star when the planet itself was obscured by clouds...'.that luminosity is precisely what our own aurora borealis would look like if our planet was viewed from a great distance. And the light is the same in both cases." As lame as the official government position is in postulating ice, snow, or frozen carbon dioxide as composing the Martian poles, imagine their predicament in the case of Venus. By their own admission, the temperature on Venus is well in excess of 800 degrees Fahrenheit...quite a place to put an ice cap! Whether by choice or by chance, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration released a few remarkable radar-generated photographs of Venus in early 1989. One of these close up images, in which the cloud-piercing radar reveals with excellent clarity the north polar opening, boldly graced the cover of the April 1989 issue of Discover. Now back to Earth. Certainly one of the three greatest pioneers of Polar exploration was Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, the acclaimed Norwegian scientist and Arctic voyager. Perhaps the most interesting expedition ever conducted in the Arctic area is chronicled in Nansen's 679 page two volume work whose complete title is: FARTHEST NORTH: 'Being the Record of a Voyage of Exploration - the Ship "Fram" 1893-96 and of a Fifteen Months Sleigh-Journey by Dr. Nansen and Lieut. Johansen'. On page 120, when the 13 man crew had already reached almost 77*N. latitude, Nansen observes "It was a strange feeling to be sailing away north in the dark night to unknown lands, over an open, rolling sea, where no ship, no boat had been before. We might have been hundreds of miles away in more southerly waters, the air was so mild for September in this latitude...We see 'nothing but clean water', as Henriksen answered from the crow 's nest when I called up to him...'They little think at home in Norway just now that we are sailing straight for the Pole in clear water'...I have almost to ask myself if this is not a dream. One must have gone against the stream to know what it means to go with the stream." Another of the major contributors to Arctic knowledge was U.S. Army Lieutenant (later General) Adolphus Greely. Like other Arctic voyages, the Lady Franklin Bay expedition encountered the truly bitter cold conditions in the lower portion of the Arctic region, but less harsh climate as they neared 80* latitude and especially mild weather beyond the 80th parallel. On page 369, when their party had attained the 81st latitude while map- making for the Army on Ellesmere Island, Greely comments "At that time a high warm wind was blowing from the interior, and the temperature was considerably above 40*(5*C.)." His use of the word 'interior' was more profoundly accurate than he realized. An example of how dramatically the warm winds from the Interior affect the far north exterior is demonstrated in this passage from page 192, when the winds had for a long while been from the south: "At 10 P.M., February 16th, the mercurial thermometers thawed out, after having been frozen continuously for sixteen days and five hours. This is the longest time on record during which mercury has remained frozen." Dr. I.I. Hayes, with the schooner United States, wrote of his far north voyage in THE OPEN POLAR SEA. They were utterly bewildered by the inexplicable increase in temperature whenever the high Arctic wind sustained from the north. While stalled by a strong persistent wind out of the north for much of the first two weeks of November, Hayes noted that after the great initial masses of ice had been driven past them, there were none more to replace them. He adds, "November 13: Worse and worse. The temperature has risen again, and the roof over the upper deck gives US once more a worse than tropic shower...November 14: The wind has been blowing for nearly twenty four hours from the northeast, and yet the temperature holds on as before...I have done with speculation. A warm wind from the 'mer de glace'...makes mischief with my theories, as facts have heretofore done with the theories of wiser men." Ships' surgeon for the 'Advance' and 'Rescue', Dr. Elisha Kent Kane recorded his extensive Arctic experience in ARCTIC EXPLORATIONS IN SEARCH OF SIR JOHN FRANKLIN, experiences which culminated near the 82nd parallel. The expedition progressed as far north as was practical in their ships and then when the amount of ice rendered additional progress impossible or at least unsafe, they continued their poleward journey on foot with sledges. But as with other Arctic explorers before and since, they were amazed to eventually find further advancement thwarted by the gradual encroachment of an open polar sea. He writes ''It is impossible in reviewing the facts which connect themselves with this discovery, the melted snow upon the rocks, the crowds of marine birds, the limited but still advancing vegetable life, the rise of the thermometer in the water, not to be struck by their bearing on the question of a milder climate near the pole. To refer them all to the modification of temperature induced by the proximity of open water is only to change the form of the question; for it leaves the inquiry unsatisfied. What is the cause of the open water?" About 130 years later we have these remarks from Russian explorer Vladimir Snegirev in his 1985 ON SKIES TO THE NORTH POLE: "On May 9 they crossed the 86th parallel...It was a strange thing indeed: you might have thought that as they approached the Pole the ice would become thicker, stronger, more solid, but in reality it was just the other way around. The closer they came to their goal, the more often they encountered open water..." Writing about Admiral Richard Byrd's first journey to Antarctica in BEYOND THE BARRIER, Eugene Rodgers records the extraordinary affect that a wind persisting from the Pole has: "Temperature swings were so violent that, only three days after the record low, the reading rose to 15 above. 'That makes a range of 87 degrees, as much as the annual range over most of the eastern U.S.'..." On page 144 of his book Nansen exclaims "Today we had the same open channel to the north, and beyond it open sea as far as our view extended. What can this mean?" When in the 79th parallel, he records on page 197 "...bringing northerly wind. It is curious that there is almost always a rise of the thermometer with these stronger winds...A south wind of less velocity generally lowers the temperature, and a moderate north wind raises it." After having reached the very far northerly position of 86* latitude, Nansen observes on page 391 "I was inconvenienced for the first time by the heat; the sun scorched quite unpleasantly." Page 407: "...last night I could hardly sleep for heat." Several months later Nansen and Johansen were heading back to the Fram, but were still above the 81st parallel, when he writes on page 527 "Fancy, only 12*(21.5*Fahr.) of frost in the middle of December! We might almost imagine ourselves at home..." When his group was at the 81st parallel, Greely records on page 370 "In its whole extent the valley was barren of snow, and in most places was covered with a comparatively luxurient vegetation." At latitude 81*49' Greely writes on page 372 "I there caught a butterfly, and saw three skuas two bumble bees, and many flies..." Page 374: "While at this camp, No. 3, we obtained but little sleep, owing to the large swarms of flies...On rising at 2 A.M. the temperature was found to be very high, 48*(8.9*C.), with a minimum of 47*(7.8*C.) since the preceding evening ...In this lake also there were many small minnows..." Page 376: "Corporal Salor brought in with his willows two small pieces of unworked pine wood...Near by I discovered the former site of an old summer encampment of the Eskimos." Page 377: " The surroundings of the encampment were marked by luxurient vegetation of grass, sorrel, poppies, and other plants." Page 378: " The sky was partly covered with true cumulus clouds, quite rare in Arctic heavens...the temperature was high and the gay yellow poppies and other flowers drew to them gaudy butterflies ...he could well imagine himself in the roaring forties instead of eight degrees from the geographical pole." Page 379: "At this point, and in its immediate vicinity, a large number of butterflies were seen...facing Ruggles River, three abandoned Eskimo huts..." Page 383: "Among other pieces of wood was a pole, nine feet long and about two inches in diameter, of a hard, close grained, coniferous wood, probably fir or hard pine.'' Page 385: "...a bumble bee and a 'devil's darning needle'. Butterflies were very numerous, as many as fifty being seen during the day...The weather during the day was excessively hot, and we suffered extremely. The attached thermometer of the aneroid barometer, which was carried always in the shade, stood at 74*(23.3*C.)...The day's march carried us farther along the shores of Lake Hazen than I had reached in May, and now a new, undiscovered country was gradually opening to our view." By far the three most significant categories of evidence proving the validity of United States patent 1096102 are 1) warmer climate in Polar region, 2) eccentric behavior of the compass, and 3) the peculiar polar lights known respectively as the Aurora Borealis and, in Antarctica, the Aurora Australis. Although the brevity of this article prevents all but a cursory examination of the voluminous available evidence, there are several other categories of proof as well. These include: 4) a dramatic increase in plant and animal life at the far north, also extreme northward bird migrations at the onset of Winter; 5) stones, wood, dust, pollen, and mud found both on and imbedded in ice bergs; 6) anomalous radio wave behavior in polar region; 7) gravitational increase measurable at the Polar Curve, sufficent to cause a significant segregation of salt water and fresh water; 8 ) strange situation of the far north Eskimo, a people with a completely unique language and whose oral tradition states that they originated from much farther north in a warm land of perpetual daylight; 9) polar sea depth and strong southgoing current in the high Arctic; 10) the perfectly fresh mammoths found encased in the ice A) if, as the official government position postulates, these elephants died during a climate shift from tropical to frigid, it is logical to inquire why didn't these shivering elephants simply 'pack their trunks' and move south? or B) if this alleged climate shift happened suddenly, then why aren't these 'flash frozen' pacyderms found alongside the inevitable 'flash frozen' thousands of acres of forest in which they lived?; 11) the peculiar chemistry and mathematics of ice bergs, enormous objects composed of fresh water and which, although there is almost no annual precipitation with which to replace them, travel by the thousands slowly southward to melt every year. The compass has been trying to indicate the true configuration of the Polar regions ever since man first employed this instrument in his quest for those mythical poles. Instead of smoothly leading would be conquerors of the pole to the fabled 90* latitude point, as it must if the official description of the Earth's geology is correct, the needle starts to perform in an agitated and indecisive fashion in high latitudes. After reaching approximately the 80th parallel, an extraordinary thing begins to occur—the needle starts vertical movement! It is at that stage that the conflicting forces of magnetism and gravity are manifesting themselves. Concerning the compass, Russian explorer Snegirev writes: "...the magnetic pole...makes some kind of tricky curve...inconvenience of traveling by compass alone. The arrow would point northward, then suddenly it would veer to the west, and then almost reluctantly it would return to its former position." Walter Sullivan comments in QUEST FOR A CONTINENT "...compasses which behaved erratically so near the Pole. ' Chauncey Loomis observes in his biography of Arctic explorer Charles Francis Hall, WEIRD AND TRAGIC SHORES "...be buried so far north of the magnetic pole that the needle of a compass put on his grave points southwest." On page 536 of his book Nansen says "There were other things, too, that greatly puzzled me. If we were on a new land, near Spitzbergen, why were the rosy gulls never seen there, while we had them in flocks here to the north? And then there was the great variation of the compass." Greely records on page 128 of his book ''In the magnetometer a small magnet, freely suspended by single fibre of untwisted silk, swings readily in any horizontal direction. This magnet, at Conger...swung to and fro in a restless, uneasy way...A magnetic needle, nicely and delicately balanced, in the middle latitudes assumes a nearly level position. At Conger, however, the needle, adjusted so that it can move freely in a vertical plane, shows a strong tendency to assume an upright position. At a dip of 90* the needle would be erect, while at Conger the inclination was about 85*." The single most spectacular feature of the high Arctic is undoubtedly the Aurora Borealis, a phenomenon alien to nearly all of the Earth's countries. The official government explanation is essentially the same as that expressed in nearly all large circulation publications, such as the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS: ''These luminous displays are caused by showers of electrons streaming from the Sun (the solar wind) and striking the atoms of the upper atmosphere, so making them glow. The shape of the Earth's magnetic field confines these displays to polar regions and high latitudes.' Were it not for its wholesale omission of the facts, this conjecture sounds nearly plausible. There are large problems, however, with an electromagnetic hypothesis in accounting for the polar lights: 1) electricity and magnetism do not move haphazardly about in enormous curtain shapes; 2) the Aurora is noticably affected by local weather changes; 3) the Aurora displays a significant variety of colors, often concurrently; 4) the magnetic needle functions even at the equator, but the Aurora is almost exclusively polar; 5) actual electrical phenomena, such as lightening, are noisy, yet the Aurora is silent; 6) particles from the Sun are mainly hydrogen, yet very little hydrogen is recorded in the spectograph's annalysis of Auroral light; 7) If caused by a perpetual flow of electrons from the Sun, then why are Auroral displays sometimes present and sometimes absent?; 8) the most powerful refutation is that Auroras are often experienced on-site with no affect upon the magnetic needle! Peter Freuchen writes in THE ARCTIC YEAR: "These peculiar lights ...brighest by far and best developed in the Arctic, reaching the height of beauty in the dark winter nights...luminous bands or rays dart rapidly over the sky. They change form continuously, and sometimes color too, and the rays often give the illusion of originating from a distant searchlight...On other occasions the aurora appears as a rippling curtain of light, steadily changing form and position. Or it may occur as a cascade of light radiating from a magnificent crown high up in the sky. Whatever the form, the aurora always exhibits movement and, generally, rapid change." The kaleidoscopic behaviour of the Aurora is fully explained by the limitless variety of atmospheric conditions present at any particular time between the Central Sun and the Polar Opening. For an instantaneous discreditation of the fraudulent 'electromagnetic bombardment' theory of Auroral production, we refer to this passage about Venus from Mark Chartrand's 1990 PLANETS: A GUIDE TO THE SOLAR SYSTEM: "Despite the fact that Venus has no magnetic field, it seems to have auroras high in its atmosphere; their origin is not understood." Greely states on page 158 of his book ''The aurora...magnetic disturbances were rare during colorless and slowly changing forms." Page 184: "Despite the remarkable duration and extent of the aurora, the magnet was but slightly disturbed." Page 187: ''The halo was preceded by an aurora, which was unaccompanied by magnetic disturbances." Acclaimed South Polar explorer Finn Ronne notes in his autobiography, ANTARCTICA, MY DESTINY "...I beheld an unimaginable crystalline beauty; and I felt myself a part of a surrealistic scene as I stood transfixed while the aurora australis washed over me." Nansen writes in his book on page 163 "The whole sky was ablaze with it...No words can depict the glory that met our eyes...It was an endless phantasmagoria of sparkling color, surpassing anything that one can dream." The evidence presented in the science books of William Reed and especially Marshall Gardner prove beyond any reasonable doubt the accuracy of United States patent 1096102, the Hollow Earth Theory. When one couples the monumental importance of this discovery with the nearly total non-acknowledgement of it in the major press, it is readily apparent that it has the dubious distinction of also being the single most pervasive conspiracy in the world. Why? The famous unregistered aircraft commonly described as unidentified flying objects are the logical answer. Even ignoring all other aspects of the UFO situation, the authentication of at least some of these vehicles is fully established by the countless number of firm radar contacts measured on both military and commercial scopes. Common sense easily discerns the logical connection between the dramatic arrival of these aircraft in large numbers in 1947 and our own extraordinary technological leap of the 1940s i.e. Atomic Bomb, trans-sound barrier flight, radar, television, etc. If the civilization operating these unregistered aircraft was headquartered on a distant planet, they would not be interested in the slightest; if, on the other hand, they occupy our interior sister world, in that case they would be extremely interested...especially by our harnessing of the atom. It may very possibly be that atomic energy will lead (or has led) to the ultimate technology of antimatter, gravity inertia reversal. Second only to national security, is a nation's desire to explore. As a peaceful pursuit, Mankind's most exhillerating ambition is Space exploration, an undertaking which we have barely begun. That will change soon if recent indications out of Nevada reach fruition. The long sought technology of gravity inertia reversal has finally been achieved and is being routinely flown in the Groom Dry Lake Antimatter Research Facility of Lincoln County, Nevada, USA. The large number of witnesses grew dramatically when NBC TV aired their April 20, 1992 report by Pentagon correspondent Fred Francis at the edge of perhaps the most highly classified military base in the world Area 51. After an eventual full disclosure and subsequent public exploration of the Interior Earth, Interior Mars will be even more fascinating. 'Sentido komun, katotohanan at sake katarungan'; common sense, truth and justice. Pasted from Strange Relics from the Depths of Earth Part 2 Continued Several geologists and paleontologists of the conservative school, in search of a face-saving explanation, declared the tracks not to be of human origin, but the marks of some as yet unknown species of amphibian. Dr. Burroughs' research, however, proved otherwise. He described the configuration of the tracks this way, as quoted in the Louisville Courier-Journal, May 24,1953: "Of these, two pairs show the left foot advanced relative to the right. The position of the feet is the same as that of a person. The distance from heel to heel is 18 inches. One pair shows the feet parallel to each other, the distance between the feet being the same as that of a normal human being. Dr. Burroughs concluded that the prints were made by a creature that was exclusively bipedal. Most amphibians and reptiles are quadruped - there were no foreleg prints. And those that have been known to walk upright on their hindlegs, always do so with the tail acting as a tripod or "third leg," to give balance. As Dr. Burroughs carefully noted, nowhere were there signs of belly or tail marks in the examined stratum. Furthermore, Dr. Burroughs and several of his colleagues performed a microscopic analysis of the mantracks, and based upon the grain count, established that, "the sand grains within each track are closer together than the grains immediately outside the tracks and elsewhere on the rock for the same kind and same combination of grains, due to the pressure of the creature's foot." The "creature," they found, had exerted a weight pressure a little above that of a modern man. As the Science Newsletter of October 29, 1938 commented, no amphibian or reptile that size has been discovered in the fossil record that walked upright in the Pennsylvanian era. Finally, the clear impressions showing five toes, ball and heel are totally unrelated to an amphibian's or reptile's physical makeup - only man has a foot like that. Albert G. Ingalls, writing in Scientific American, January, 1940, declared, "If man existed as far back as in the Carboniferous Period in any shape, then the whole science of geology is so completely wrong that all geologists should resign their jobs and take up truck driving." On an outcrop of greyish-blue crinoidal limestone about 200 feet wide and extending along the west bank of the Mississippi for 3 miles just south of St. Louis, are a number of mantrack impressions which a century ago could be observed during low-water stages. The early French explorers along the river were the first to note their existence, and ever since they have created a heated controversy. The first scientific observation of the prints was reported by Henry Schooleraft in The American Journal of Science (volume V), for 1822, and he described them as, "strikingly natural, exhibiting every muscular impression, and the swell of the heel and toes, with a precision and faithfulness to nature I have not been able to copy." His colleagues dismissed the tracks as Indian petroglyphs, but Schooleraft was convinced of their natural origin: They had been impressed, he carefully noted, not carved into the limestone. Whoever had made them, Schooleraft also commented, had been of average size: The foot lengths were 10 1/2 inches; width across the outspread toes were 4 inches; and the heels were 2 1/2 inches wide. The American Antiquarian, volume 7, pages 364-367 (1885) gave the account of another find associated with the St. Louis footprints that is perhaps even more disturbing. Quoting from Priest's "American Antiquities," a particular set of tracks was described in detail. Then, "directly before the prints of these feet, within a few inches, is a well-impressed and deep mark, having some resemblance to a scroll, or roll of parchment, two feet long by a foot in width." The squared impression was not a natural shape; neither were there scratch marks that would have indicated the patch had been carved. Rather, the evidence points to the parchment impression having been made when the rock was still in a plastic state - made at the same time as the footprints. What such a find suggests is that the prints' owners were not only men, but were men with the intelligence to produce some form of paper sheet - and perhaps write upon it. But as if this were not enough of a mystery, the limestone in which prints and paper appear, is dated to the Mississippian age - 345 million years ago. Still more finds of prints plunge mankind "feet first" even farther down into the geologic column. In 1948, a shoe impress was discovered near Lake Windermere, England. As reported in the natural history journal The Field for that year, the impress had been made in Ordovician limestone - an unbelievable 500 million years old. Remarkable too is the finding that the print bears signs of craft and artistry: Around the edge of both the heel and the foreshoe are circular impressions which resemble tacking; while in the center of the sole and heel are faint decorations of linear and flower-like designs. Though the impression is somewhat distorted in shape due to fractures and crevices in the rock surface, a measurement reveals an extended length of the shoe of about 8 inches and a width of 31/2 inches. On June 1, 1968, an amateur rock hunter, William J. Meister, of Kearns, Utah was visiting nearby Antelope Springs with his family. The area, which includes the Swasey Mountains and the Cambrian Wheeler shale formation, is famous for its many fossils, and on this particular day Meister was on the lookout for fossilized trilobites and brachiopods - according to evolutionary theory, once among the oldest known living creatures. Meister broke off a rock slab, and, tapping its edge with a hammer, it fell open in two pieces, like the leaves of a book. To his great surprise, inside was a human sandal print, pointed in the toes, rounded in the heel, and with a squashed trilobite in the center of the sole. The sandal print measured 10 1/4 inches long, 31/2 inches wide at the ball and 3 inches at the heel. The sandal appears to have been well-worn on the right side - indicating it had been worn on the right foot - and the heel impression is deeper by one-eighth of an inch, characteristic of the weight distribution of humans on the foot. This particular find was later examined by Dr. Hellmut H. Doelling, of the Utah Geological Survey, and he found no irregularities or evidence of fakery - the print was genuine. On July 20th, Meister returned to Antelope Springs with professional geologist Dr. Clifford Burdick. Digging in the same locality, Burdick discovered another imprint in the Cambrian shale, this time of a child The print was 6 inches long, and the five toes were barely distinguishable, as if the child was wearing moccasins. Yet Burdick detected that the toes were spread out, indicating the child had only begun to wear shoes, which tend to compress the toes with age. The heel and arch were again well depressed, showing weight distribution, and a segment of a fossil was crushed in its middle. Burdick managed to find a larger fossil imprint, like Meister's original, though the impression was shallower, and also unearthed a second child's track, smaller than the first, with the toes broken off, but perfect in its other aspects. Later, a detailed examination revealed that the rock in which the prints were found was made of tiny layers, and where the foot-marks occur, the layers were bowed downward from the horizontal - demonstrating that weight had indeed, been pressed into the once prehistoric mud. But that "prehistoric mud" with its tell-tale prints, is now Cambrian shale - an astounding 600 million years old. And the fossils in the prints are trilobites - supposed to be among the earliest forms of life on earth. This time, we have literally hit "rock bottom" in the fossil record - and yet here we find the presence of man, and an intelligent, shoe-wearing man at that. How could he have "evolved" from simple life, when the Cambrian prints testify that he is as old as life itself? Out-of-place metal objects It is one thing to find evidence of human skeletal remains and footprints in the incredible past, but it is something else again to discover artifacts that prove the existence of advanced cultures in the strata as well. One of the characteristics of any high civilization is its ability to work metals. Conservative historians and archaeologists, who hold to the concept of linear cultural development, point to the ancient Middle East as the home of the very first metal production. Here, they claim, man began to melt and shape copper, iron, gold, and silver only 8,000 years ago. But unusual relics brought up from the depths of the rocky earth tell a different story. In 1826, a well dug near the Ohio river in north Cincinnati failed to produce water, but did produce the unexpected. From a level 94 feet down, a buried tree stump was brought to the surface which showed the marks of an ax. The marks were deep and well-cut, indicating the use of a sharp and durable blade. The suspicion that the ax had been made of metal was confirmed when, embedded in the top of the stump, an advanced oxidized wedge of iron was found. The layer from which the stump came was estimated to be between 50,000 and 75,000 years old - nearly 10 times the accepted age of the supposed first metal usage. A letter kept in the Archives of Madrid and dated 1572, records the account of the Spanish Viceroy in Peru and a strange artifact which came into his possession. In the year the letter was written, Indian miners removed from a subsurface layer of gravel a large conglomerate boulder, and broke it into pieces for easier disposal. As the mass shattered to the hammer blow, out of the center of it fell a perfect six-inch nail. The nail was later given to the Viceroy as a souvenir, who had it thoroughly examined, and verified its finding. The first mystery is that iron was unknown to the Peruvian Indians, so the nail did not originate with them. And the second mystery is that the rock from which the nail was freed was in the neighborhood of 75,000 to 100,000 years in age. In the June, 1851 issue of Scientific American (volume 7, pages 298-299), a report was reprinted from the Boston Transcript about two parts of a metallic vase dynamited out of solid rock on Meeting House Hill, Dorchester, Massachusetts. When the two parts were put together, they formed a bell-shaped vase, 4 1/2 inches high, 6 1/2 inches at the base, 2 1/2 inches at the top and an eighth of an inch thick. The metal of the vase was composed of an alloy of zinc and a considerable portion of silver. On the sides were six figures of a flower in bouquet arrangements, inlaid with pure silver, and around the lower part a vine, or wreath, also inlaid with silver. The chasing, carving, and inlaying are exquisitely done by the art of some unknown craftsman - yet this curiosity was blown out of solid pudding stone from 15 feet below the surface. Estimated age - 100,000 years. Unfortunately, the vase was circulated from museum to museum, and then disappeared. It is probably gathering dust in some curator's basement, its identity or source long forgotten. At Lawn Ridge, 20 miles north of Peoria, Illinois, in August of 1870, three men were drilling an artesian well, when - from a depth of over a hundred feet - the pump brought up a small metal medallion to the surface. One of the workmen, Jacob W. Moffit, from Chillicothe, was the first to discover it in the drill residue. A noted scholar of the time, Professor Alexander Winchell, reported in his book Sparks From a Geologist's Hammer, that he received from another eye-witness, W.H. Wilmot, a detailed statement, dated December 4, 1871, of the deposits and depths of materials made during the boring, and the position where the metal "coin" was uncovered. The stratification took this form: Soil - 3 feet; yellow clay - 17 feet; blue clay - 44 feet; dark vegetable matter - 4 feet; hard purplish clay - 18 feet; bright green clay - 8 feet; mottled clay - 18 feet; paleosol (ancient soils) - 2 feet; coin location; yellowish clay - 1 foot; sand, clay and water - 11 feet. The strange "coin-medallion" was composed of an unidentified copper alloy, about the size and thickness of a U.S. quarter of that period. It was remarkably uniform in thickness, round, and the edges appeared to have been cut. Researcher William E. Dubois, who presented his investigation of the medallion to the American Philosophical Society, was convinced that the object had in fact passed through a rolling mill, the edges showed "further evidence of the machine shop." Despite its "modern characteristics", however, Dubois plainly saw that, upon the object, "the tooth of time is plainly visible." Both sides of the medallion were marked with artwork and hieroglyphs, but these had not been metal-engraved or stamped. Rather, the figures had somehow been etched in acid, to a remarkable degree of intricacy. One side showed the figure of a woman wearing a crown or headdress; her left arm is raised as if in benediction, and her right arm holds a small child, also crowned. The woman appears to be speaking. On the opposite side is another central figure, that looks like a crouching animal: it has long, pointed ears, large eyes and mouth, claw-like arms, and a long tail frayed at the very end. Below and to the left of it is another animal, which bears a strong resemblance to a horse. Around the outer edges of both sides of the coin are undecipherable glyphs - they are of very definite character, and show all the signs of a form of alphabetic writing. In 1876, the medallion was presented by Professor Winchell to a meeting of the Geological Section of the American Association in Buffalo. There was much speculation, but few answers. One participant, a conservative historian, Professor J.R. Lesley, tried to explain the object as a "practical joke" dropped into a hole by a passing French or Spanish explorer. The professor even claimed to see the coin's figures as the astrological signs of Pisces and Leo, and read into the glyphs the date 1572. However, Winchell countered with these arguments against such an interpretation: 1. By no stretch of the imagination were the figures and glyphs decipherable in terms of any known symbology or script. 2. Who, as a practical joke, would have dropped a metal object into a hole and known that someone several hundred years later would happen to drill at that precise spot (within a 4-inch tolerance) and find it? The odds would be phenomenal. And 3. There is the very real problem of explaining the accumulation of 114 feet of deposit over the buried coin. Having examined all the evidence, Winchell was convinced the coin had indeed come from this depth. It had not fallen into a hole in the past - the sediments drilled through were uniform and undisturbed. And the amount of sedimentation was not what would have settled in only a few centuries. In fact, recent calculations based on uniform rates of alluvium deposition and radioisotope dates for this region estimate an age for materials from just below a depth of 100 feet to be between 100,000 and 150,000 years. What conclusions can we draw about the mystery coin? A lost civilization once existed on the North American continent which worked in copper and other metals; possessed art and writing; attired themselves with crowns and other clothing; knew of and perhaps domesticated several animals including the horse; utilized acids for etching in a manner that is still not understood today; and perhaps the most disturbing, possessed forms of machinery for the cutting, rolling and processing of metal pieces. As a sidelight, the enigmatic coin was not the only item that came from deep levels in Illinois. In 1851, in Whiteside County, another well-drilling bit brought up from a sand stratum 120 feet deep two copper artifacts: What appears to be a hook, and a ring. Their age is thought to be the same as that of the coin - about 150,000 years old. On February 13,1961, three rock hunters - Mike Mikesell, Wallace Lane and Virginia Maxey - were collecting geodes about 12 miles east-southeast of Olancha, California. Geodes are spherical stones with hollow interiors lined with crystals. On this particular day, while searching in the Coso Mountains, they found one stone located near the top of a peak approximately 4,300 feet in elevation and about 340 feet above the dry bed of Owens Lake. The rockhounds took it to be a geode, but later found it was not, because it bore traces of fossil shells. The next day when Mikesell cut the stone in half, he nearly ruined a ten-inch diamond saw in the process, for it did not contain crystals, but rather something totally unexpected. Inside were the remains of some form of mechanical device: Beneath the outer layer of hardened clay, pebbles and fossil inclusions is a hexagonal shaped layer of a substance resembling wood, softer than agate or jasper. This layer forms a casing around a three-quarter inch wide cylinder made of solid white porcelain or ceramic, and in the center of the cylinder is a two millimeter shaft of bright, brassy metal. This shaft, the rock hunters discovered, is magnetic, and after several years of exposure never showed traces of oxidation. Also, surrounding the ceramic cylinder are rings of copper, much of them now corroded. Embedded too in the rock, though separate from the cylinder, are two more man-made items - what look like a nail and a washer. EDITOR’S COMMENT: Several readers have stated that this artifact is indeed a spark plug from the 1920’s. The puzzled rock hunters sent their find to the Charles Fort Society, who specialize in investigating things out of the ordinary. The Society made an X-ray examination of the cylinder object enclosed in the fossil-encrusted rock, and found further evidence that it was indeed some form of mechanical apparatus. The X-rays revealed that the metallic shaft was corroded at one end, but on the other end terminated in what appeared to be a spring or helix of metal. As a whole, the "Coso artifact" is now believed to be something more than a piece of machinery: The carefully shaped ceramic, metallic shaft and copper components hint at some form of electrical instrument. The closest modern apparatus that researchers have been able to equate it with is a spark plug. However, there are certain features - particularly the spring or helix terminal - that does not correspond to any known spark plug today. The rock in which the electrical instrument was found was dated by a competent geologist at 500,000 years old. The rock strata appear to be full of metal "surprises." The Illinois Springfield Republican reported in 1851 that a businessman named Hiram de Witt had brought back with him from a trip to California a piece of auriferous quartz rock about the size of a man's fist, and that while showing the rock to a friend, it slipped from his hand and split open upon hitting the floor. There, in the center of the quartz, they discovered a cut-iron nail, six-penny size, slightly corroded but entirely straight, with a perfect head. the quartz was given an age of over one million years. In 1865, a two-inch metal screw was discovered in a piece of feldspar unearthed from the Abbey Mine in Treasure City, Nevada. The screw had long ago oxidized, but its form - particularly the shape of its threads - could be clearly seen in the feldspar. The stone was calculated to be 21 million years in age. Twenty years earlier, in 1844, Sir David Brewster made a report to the British Association for the Advancement of Science which created quite a stir. A nail of obvious human manufacture had been found half-embedded in a sandstone block excavated from the Kindgoodie Quarry near Inchyra, in northern Britain. It was badly corroded, but identifiable nonetheless. The sandstone was determined to be at least 40 million years old. In the fall of 1885, at an iron foundry owned by the sons of Herr Isidor Braun located in Schondorf near Bocklabruck, Upper Austria, a workman named Riedl was breaking up a block of Tertiary brown coal that had been mined from the pits at Wolfsegg, near Schwannstadt, and was about to be used to heat the foundry's giant smelters. As the block disintegrated into several pieces, out dropped a strange cube-like object. In 1886, mining engineer Dr. Adolf Gurlt made a report to the Natural History Society at Bonn, Germany and noted that the object, coated with a thin layer of rust, is made of iron, measures 2.64 by 2.64 by 1.85 inches, weighs 1.73 Ibs., and has a specific gravity measurement of 7.75. Four of the iron "cube's" sides are roughly flat, while the two remaining sides - opposite each other - are convex. A fairly deep groove was incised all the way around the object, about mid-way up its height. Other early studies on the iron artifact were in scientific journals of the day as Nature (London; November 11, 1886, page 36) and L'Astronomie (Paris; 1886, page 463). A plaster cast was also made before the turn of the century -important because the original object subsequently suffered from handling, and from being disfigured by samples having been cut from it by investigators for research. The cast is kept in the Oberosterreichisehes Landesmuseum in Linz, Austria, where the original object was also exhibited from 1950 to 1958. The iron cube is presently in the custody of Herrn O.R. Bernhardt of the Heimathaus Museum in Vocklabruck. In 1966-67, the iron "cube" was carefully analyzed by experts at the Vienna Naturhistorisehes Museum, using electron-beam microanalysis. They found no traces of nickel, chromium or cobalt in the iron - which means the object was not of meteoric origin. No sulfur was detected either, ruling out the chance of it being a pyrite, a natural mineral that sometimes forms geometric shapes. Because of a low magnesium content, Dr. Kurat of the Museum, and Dr. R. Gill of the Geologisehe Bundesanstalt of Vienna, are of the opinion that the object was made of cast-iron. In 1973, Hubert Mattlianer concluded from yet another detailed investigation that the object had been made from a hand-sculptured lump of wax or clay pressed into a sand base, this forming the mold into which the iron had been poured. The final conclusion, then, is that the strange object is definitely man-made. What is not explained is what it was doing encased in coal dating to the Tertiary - 60 million years old. In 1968, French speleologists Y. Druet and H. Salfati reported finding unusual metal nodules entombed in an Aptian chalk bed in a quarry at Saint-Jean de Livet. The nodules are reddish brown, wafer-shaped and hollowed at the ends, measuring from 3 to 9 centimeters long and 1 to four centimeters wide. The two investigators at first thought the nodules were fossils until they discovered their metallic nature. Next, they theorized they were residue from a meteor - but careful study showed the nodules were too uniformly shaped to be of natural origin. Chemical analysis showed a carbon content consistent with modern forging and casting techniques. But what had these man-made objects been doing in chalk beds dating toward the end of the Cretaceous - over 120 million years? As Druet and Salfati concluded, "These objects, then, prove the presence of intelligent life on earth long before the limits given today by prehistoric archaeology." On June 9, 1891, Mrs. S.W. Culp of Morrisonville, Illinois was shoveling coal into her kitchen stove when a large lump broke in two and out from the center of it fell a gold chain. The chain was about 10 inches long, made of eight carat gold, weighed 8 pennyweight, and was described as being "of antique and quaint workmanship." The Morrisonville Times of June 11 reported that investigators were convinced the chain had not simply been accidentally dropped in with the coal: One portion of the coal lump still clung to the chain, while the part that had separated from it still bore the impression of where the chain had been encased. The Times could only comment, "Here is one for the student of archaeology who loves to puzzle his brain over the geological construction of the Earth from whose ancient depth the curious are always dropping out." In this case, the "curious" "dropped out" of a piece of coal from the Pennsylvanian era - over 300 million years old. Similar events produced another metal object of even greater age. In 1912, two employees of the Municipal Electric Plant of Thomas, Oklahoma, were shoveling coal into the plant furnaces, using fuel which had been mined near neighboring Wilberton. One chunk of coal was too large to handle, so the workmen took a sledge hammer to it. Once it broke open, however, the workmen found that the chunk contained an iron pot, and upon its removal, the two coal halves bore the "mold" of the pot in its interiors. Both employees signed affidavits testifying to the authenticity of the discovery, and the iron pot was subsequently examined by several experts - every one of which was most reluctant to comment on the pot, and the circumstances surrounding its discovery. This was most understandable, since the object came from coal dated from 300 to 325 million years. One more find that must be mentioned in the out-of-place metal category takes us - once again - to the deepest level of fossil life. On June 13, 1880, a reporter for the Inverness Courier named Walter Carruthers was vacationing near Loch Maree and Victoria Falls, in Scotland, and - being an amateur rock hunter - decided to explore the geology of the area. Between 300 and 400 yards above Victoria Falls, and immediately beside the last of the three lesser falls on the west side of the stream, Carruthers noticed peculiar impressions in the rock. The rock was a l6 x 16-foot exposed surface of Torridon Red Sandstone, placed in the Cambrian age. The impressions consisted of two continuous flat bands side by side, between 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inches wide and about 1/4 inch deep, running unnaturally straight through the flat layers of sandstone in situ, and perfectly distinct for 16 feet, disappearing on the west side under the superimposed rock, and broken only where portions of the sandstone had been weathered out. A few weeks later the curious "bands" were also observed by a colleague of Carruthers, Mr. William Jolly, Her Majesty's Inspector of Schools for the region. Carruthers had thought the impressions to have been the creation of some highly unusual living creature, but Jolly recorded that "the continuous even breadth and square section of the bands would seem to render this impossible." Jolly further noted, "The double band resembles nothing more nearly than the hollow impression that would be left by double bars of iron placed closely together." Jolly's observation was corroborated years later when micro-specks of iron oxide were taken from the impression cavities. The superintendent thought, however, that perhaps the iron bands had at one time been inserted into the rock, "to clasp some structure to it" - but other findings discount this. First, the bands occur high above the Falls in an almost totally inaccessible place, where a "structure" would serve little purpose. Second, the bands are only one-quarter of an inch deep, so that anything "clasped" to them would not hold for long. Third, parallel on either side of each band are tin)? ripple marks in the sandstone, indicating the presence of the original iron bands had caused turbulence patterns in the sand during the time the sand had been laid down by water, and before it had turned to stone. Fourth, the sandstone in the impressions show tiny striations which are really the preserved grain marks of the iron - again, indicating the metal had been impressed in the primordial sand, before solidification took place. And finally, fifth, one portion of one of the bands bends back into the subsurface, and careful excavation revealed the presence of iron oxide totally encased by the surrounding sandstone. Jolly also found other band impressions in the same locality: There is a third band that runs alongside the other two, but is much less distinct and is not continuous. Two more lines, about 2 feet lower down on the rock surface, are only 7 feet long, and two more are higher up, running 3 feet long. Jolly also saw still more bands on an outcropping of the same sandstone on the other side of the stream, again parallel to one another - one 3 feet, another 6 feet, and smaller portions of several others. What purpose these iron bands served, we can only guess. What we do know, however, is that all the bands were very uniform in width and thickness, with squared edges, and the grain marks they left indicate they were rolled and cut - all of which points to precision manufacturing by machine production. But this is totally impossible, if we are to believe the geologists, for the sandstone in which the bands occur is Cambrian - 600 million years old, by their own measurements. Who, pray tell, was running an iron mill at a time when there was supposedly only tiny invertebrate creatures ruling the world? Images and messages from the incredible past Metal-working is by no means the only sign of advanced culture: Other characteristics include such developments as art, architecture and writing. Since we have already observed several examples of metal production encased in geologic rock, it should be no surprise to find examples of other cultural elements also entombed deep within the earth. In 1921, an Arkansan named Rowlands was digging in one of the many gravel pits on a line of small hillocks known as Crowley's Ridge, located two miles north of Finch. At a depth of 10 feet, Rowlands' shovel suddenly struck something large and solid. The object appeared at first to be a boulder, but excavating around it, Rowlands soon discovered that it was a large rock-sculptured head of a man. It stood about 4 feet high, and the figure had a squared, protruding chin, small, tight-lipped mouth, a short nose, and a furrowed brow and stare accented by two flat "buttons" of inlaid gold for eyes. Two more gold discs ornamented the figure's ears, and a heart-shaped plug of copper was embedded in the chest. The top of the head was covered by a carved hood that draped down the nape, and attached to a piece around the neck. Near the head, and in the same layer, Rowlands dug up a number of smaller objects: a gold ring, a small coffer made of volcanic pumice (which does not exist in this region), and tiny carvings of men, animals, moons and stars. The head and artifacts soon became a local attraction, and the newspapers dubbed the glowering figure "King Crowley." Several investigators authenticated the find, though they could not explain its presence in the ten-foot layer of gravel - geologically dated at 175,000 years. The head and objects were sent to the Arkansas Natural History Museum in Little Rock. The museum curators, who also examined the artifacts and had double-checked and documented their discovery, were confident in the findings' authenticity to place them on public display. At the same time, however, some of the small carving samples were mailed to the Smithsonian in Washington. The Smithsonian - being a far more conservative institution -described the carvings as truly "unexplained items," but could not reconcile the antiquity of the strata in which they had been brought to light. Finally, after fifteen years of vacillating on the subject, orthodoxy triumphed: The Smithsonian concluded that the Crowley Ridge artifacts could not be 175,000 years old as this contradicted established theory on the age of human civilization, and therefore declared the artifacts fakes. Conforming to this prestigious conservative pronouncement, the Little Rock museum promptly took the stone head and other objects off display, and eventually sold them to unnamed private collectors. The "King Crowley" had was shipped off to California, and the rest of the collection was similarly scattered to the four winds. Today, the location of even a single object is unknown. One wonders how many other valuable out-of-place items, because they do not conform to "acceptable" schemes of history and geology, have been likewise thrown out or lost by Establishment institutions. On June 27,1969, workmen cutting into a rock shelf situated on the Broadway Extension of 122nd Street, between Edmond and Oklahoma City, came upon a find that was to create much controversy among the experts. The find was an inlaid tile floor, found 3 feet below the surface, and covering several thousand square feet. Durwood Pate, an Oklahoma City geologist, commented on the floor in the Edmond Booster of July 3, 1969: "I am sure this was man-made because the stones are placed in perfect sets of parallel lines which intersect to form a diamond shape, all pointing to the east. We found post holes which measure a perfect two rods from the other two. The top of the stone is very smooth, and if you lift one of them, you will find it is very jagged, which indicates wear on the surface. Everything is too well placed to be a natural formation." Pate also discovered a form of mortar between the tiles. He believes now that the tile surface served as a common floor for several human shelters over a wide area. Delbert Smith, a geologist and president of the Oklahoma Seismograph Company, summed up the mystery concerning the tile floor in the Tulsa World of June 29, 1969: "There is no question about it. It had been laid there, but I have no idea by whom." Yet another facet of the mystery involved the question of age. There are some differing opinions as to the geology involved, but the best estimate places the tiles at 200,000 years old. On August 1, 1889, a professional well-driller, M.A. Kurtz, was working near his home in Nampa, Idaho, along with two other crewmen, when their steam pump suddenly spat out a piece of brownish clay 11/2 inches long that was clearly humanoid in appearance. The discovery was also eye-witnessed by several prominent citizens of Nampa. What amazed these men was that the little clay "doll" had come from below a 15-foot layer of lava rock, 100 feet of sand, 6 inches of clay, 40 feet of more sand, then 165 feet composed of clay, sand, clay nodules mixed with sand, and coarse sand layers - a total of 320 feet. The small "doll" is composed of half clay and half quartz, and according to at least one expert, Professor Albert A. Wright of Oberlin College, it was not the product of a small child or amateur, but was made by a true artist. Though badly battered by time, the doll's appearance is still distinct: it has a bulbous head, with barely discernible mouth and eyes; broad shoulders; short, thick arms; and long legs, the right leg broken off. There are also faint geometric markings on the figure, which represent either clothing patterns or jewelry -they are found mostly on the chest around the neck, and on the arms and writs. The doll is the image of a person of a high civilization, artistically attired. The Nampa doll came to the attention of Dr. G.F. Wright of the Boston Society of Natural History, who sought to verify the depth at which it was found - and thus also establish its great antiquity. In an on-location examination of Kurtz's equipment, the hole drilled, and interviews with the witnesses, Dr. Wright became convinced the find was genuine. Kurtz demonstrated that the well had been tubed with heavy iron tubing 6 inches in diameter, so that there was no mistake about the occurrence of the artifact at the stated depth. Furthermore, the pump worked in only one direction - had the object fallen into the hole from above, it would have been destroyed by the pump. Wright concluded in a report to the Boston Society that, "There is no ground to question the fact that this image came up in the sand pump from the depth reported." In another study, fellow Bostonian Professor F.W. Putnam found through microscopic analysis that quartz grains under the doll's right arm had been cemented by iron molecules. This too - independent of the fact of the depth of the discovery - is indicative of a great age. How old is the Nampa object? The lava rock layer through which Kurtz's drill penetrated is part of the prehistoric lava flows of the Columbia Plateau which occurred before the advance of the last Ice Age. And below this layer, the image was discovered another 300 feet down. The best modern geologic estimate puts the date for the layer in which the doll was found at over 300,000 years. Today, the Nampa doll is on exhibit at the Idaho State Historical Society in Boise. Curiously enough, a second doll-like figure was discovered sometime before 1880 near Marlboro in Stark County, Ohio, by workmen drilling a well. The image - made of black variegated marble and standing 6 inches tall - was unearthed from a depth of only 120 feet, but was embedded in sand and gravel of a similar type and age as that of the Nampa doll. There were two things remarkable about the Ohio figure: First, the marble it is made of is not indigenous to Ohio; and second, it bears an astonishing resemblance to the image found at Nampa. One can see in it the same bulbous head, simple facial features, stocky frame and long arms and legs. Did the two, the Ohio and Idaho "dolls," come from the same enigmatic lost civilization? The evidence answers yes. One of the most convincing signs of a high civilization is the written word. In the early spring of 1891, a farmer named J.H. Hooper was examining a wooded ridge on his property, located in Bradley County, 13 miles from Cleveland, Tennessee. A peculiar stone caught his attention, which he first took to be a grave marker. But digging around it, he soon discovered that the stone was only a surface projection of a subterranean structure that extended into the depths below. Hopper spent the next several weeks in an attempt to uncover his unusual find: A length of wall, traced for a thousand feet, on the average 2 feet thick and 8 feet high, with numerous projections - like the first one - spaced along the top every 25 to 30 feet. The wall ran roughly at an angle of 15 to 20 degrees east. The structure continues on beyond the section exposed, in both directions, following the crest of a ridge that extends from the Hiawassee river north of Chattanooga southward, where it dips beneath the Tennessee river. Its position dates it geologically to near the beginning of the Quaternary - well over a million years old. The wall is composed of red sandstone blocks constructed in three courses, cemented together with a dark red clay mixed with salt, and in numerous places is plastered over with red, slate and yellow clays. Along one stretch of wall, near the northern end a distance of 16 feet, Hooper made without a doubt the most important discovery: Hidden beneath the outer clay plasterings, a number of the sandstone block surfaces were covered with the hieroglyphs of a lost language. The letters were arranged in wavy, parallel and diagonal lines, interspersed with small pictures of strange animals, many unidentifiable. there were other symbols too, of the sun and crescent moon, which appear to have some astronomical significance. All together, 872 individual characters were made out, many repeated - suggesting the script is a form of pictographic writing, like Chinese. Despite the implications of the wall, and the challenge of the discovery of an unknown writing, the find was met by the scientific community with overwhelming apathy. A short notice on the Tennessee mystery wall appeared in the Transactions of the New York Academy of Sciences (11:26-29), written by A.L. Rawson, who examined the structure and script first-hand, as well as published copies he had made of some of the glyphs and pictures. But that was all; no further study was ever made. In 1936, Tom Kenny, a resident of Plateau Valley, a town located on the western slope of the Rockies in Colorado, was excavating for a winter cellar to store vegetables, when at a depth of 10 feet his spade hit a barrier. Clearing the covering material away, he unearthed a pavement made of tiles, each man-made and five inches square. The tiles were laid in mortar, the chemical composition of which later analysis showed was different from all materials found in the valley. The perplexing problem is that the strange pavement was found in the same layer containing the three-toed Miocene horse - upwards of 30 million years old. In November, 1829, a block of marble measuring over 30 cubic feet was excavated from a depth of between 60 to 70 feet, from the Henderson quarry, located 12 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The block was sent to the Savage marble saw mill in nearby Norristown for cutting into slabs for construction. After taking off one slab about 3 feet wide and 6 feet long, workmen noticed something strange: They had exposed an unnaturally straight-edged, rectangular indentation. Several respectable townsmen were called to the scene, and in their presence the rest of the block surface was carefully removed. Revealed were two sharply defined engraved letters, resembling an "I," and a "U" with a squared base. The indentations were 11/2 inches long and five-eighths of an inch in width. There was no way the letters could have been of recent origin - they were deeply embedded in the marble. More mysterious, the marble had come from a very old lime rock. Estimated age: About 65 million years. The Los Angeles News of December 17, 1869 printed an account supplied to the paper by a correspondent of the Cleveland Herald, writing from Wellsville, Ohio. The account described how in the autumn of the year, at a coal mine operated by a Captain Lacey of Hammondville, a miner named James Parsons was loosening a large mass at a depth of 100 feet, when he suddenly exposed a smooth slate wall covered with strange alphabetic writing. The letters were raised and well defined. The coal that had covered the wall bore their distinct impression - which means the letters date to a time when the coal was in a vegetable state, and had molded itself against the wall. Each sign was three-quarters of an inch in size, and arranged in rows precisely spaced 3 inches apart. The first line of letters contained 25. Local teachers and ministers examined the find, but could offer no explanations. Unfortunately, just before a number of university professors arrived to verify the discovery, the slate surface disintegrated from exposure to air, and the script was lost. Nevertheless, the find was well-documented, and attested to by several reliable witnesses. But the most disturbing fact about the mysterious slate wall and its glyphs was their undeniable presence in coal - coal from the Carboniferous era, well over 200 million years old. A naturalist named Isaac Lea reported in the American Journal of Science (volume I, number 1, page 155), in 1822, a find he had made in a stretch of sandstone located a quarter mile north of Pittsburgh, on the same side of the Monongahela river. Lea described it as the most singular specimen he had ever seen: An unusually flat rectangular surface, 3 feet long and varying from 5 to 6 inches wide. One end was cut off by a break in the rock - so there is no way of knowing the real length of the original impression. The other end terminated in the middle of the rock face in a straight, square line -as if a roll of paper had been torn off clean. On this flat surface were row after row of evenly spaced, perfect diamond shapes, each with an oblique, raised band across its center. Lea was mystified as to how to classify the impression, as belonging to the animal or vegetable kingdom. The answer is neither: The pattern is too precise to be natural, the diamond shapes too square to be designed by anything but an intelligent hand. Luckily, Lea had forethought enough to make accurate measurements and draw sketches of the impression, for when he returned to remove it for further study, he found that a quarryman had beaten him to it, and had done his work. The naturalist also took meticulous note of the position of the rock surface in relation to the geology of the surrounding area. The hill in which it existed is not high enough to take in the bed of carboniferous coal found in a horizontal stratum about 250 feet above the locality. In fragments of the impressed rock, Lea found fossils of primitive jointed plants - the type which made its appearance in the Devonian era, 400 million years ago. What exactly was the mysterious pattern in rock? We do not know, but the fact remains that it bore the artistic and measuring hand of man. That hand was contemporary with purportedly the earliest plant life on earth. Analysis and conclusions How can this evidence of the presence of man from the very beginning of the fossil record be explained? Certainly, the prevailing Uniformitarian-evolution-linear model of the past is in no position to do so, because the mere existence of deeply buried human objects completely destroys the whole premise of slow, gradual, progressive development of the earth, of life, of man, and of human culture -the very cornerstone of the model. If man and his products can be found all the way down to the lowest level of geologic life, where is the evidence for his continual evolution, or for his long cultural climb from primitive beginnings? It is clear we must look elsewhere for the answers. Today, besides the Uniformitarian-evolution-linear model, there have been three new and alternative models proposed, and each of these offer their own interpretations of the past. These are: Extraterrestrialism, Catastrophic evolution, and Creationism. Let us look at each one separately. Most people have become aware of the Extraterrestrialist model through the writings of Erich von Daniken, author of Chariots of the Gods, and other similar works. What is not often realized, however, is that von Daniken's ideas not only have had popular appeal to the man on the street, but they are having a definite impact on the academic and scientific world as well. Von Daniken offers what appears to be a plausible answer to the riddle of out-of-place artifacts of an advanced nature which have been unearthed from the archaeological record -and, as we have seen from the fossil and geological records as well. According to him, aliens from other worlds have supposedly been visiting the earth throughout history and prehistory, and the out-of-place remains we find were the product of contact between the spacemen and early man. In the case of those objects discovered in those layers believed to pre-date man's appearance, then the items were left by the extraterrestrials themselves. By giving the out-of-place artifacts an "other world" source, Von Daniken has thus neatly explained their presence, while at the same time preserving accepted" theories of evolution. In effect, he has placed the artifacts in a realm outside the earthly scheme of things, where they do not conflict with slow, progressive evolutionary development - only intervening now and then. But there are several flaws in the Extraterrestrialist model. In not one instance has Von Daniken been able to demonstrate the existence of a single "ancient astronaut." His "evidence," on close inspection, is largely based on his own personal interpretations of primitive drawings and ancient records which look and sound (to him) like men wearing spacesuits, or riding around inside spaceships. In every case, there is another simpler and literally more "down to earth" interpretation for every "space" drawing and record he offers as proof. When we examine closely the out-of-place artifacts themselves, especially those we have studied embedded in the geologic layers, we find that they do not appear alien to us, and they certainly do not exhibit a technology exclusively different from that of, say, our own civilization today - that is, what man himself has and could have once before produced. What is more, where we have found the presence of artifacts, we have also found clear evidence of the presence of man: You will remember that among those discoveries made in the fossil record, not only did we observe objects of worked metals, stone, etc., but there were also human skulls, bones and footprints. Man was there; the artifacts logically were of his making. There is no need to invoke spacemen, or look to the stars, for an answer - the answer lies here on earth, or as in the case of our study here, in the earth. A second modern model of the past is Catastrophic evolution -and as its name implies, it is a modification of the old Uniformitarian-evolution model. Catastrophic evolutionists propose to fully accept the existence of human remains in the geologic column, while leaving the column and the dating of the various rock layers intact. What this means is a scenario of human history in which civilizations have been born, risen to intellectual and technological heights, and then were destroyed by earth upheavals, again and again over 600 million years. At first glance, this model might seem plausible enough to explain the facts. But there are problems to consider. As noted earlier, historians measure the antiquity of our own civilization as being no more than 10,000 years. If we take this as the average "lifespan" for the development of a technological society, and attempt to apply this to the multiple civilization scenario, we find that we must presuppose the existence of an incredible 60,000 civilizations to each down to the Cambrian age. What is more, there is the major difficulty of how all these societies would have disappeared -unless one is also to imagine 60,000 separate cataclysms. Unfortunately, the geologic record does not support that many world changes. The geologic record also reveals that, if only simple forms of life supposedly existed in the earliest levels, there was no way such environments could have supported a human population, let alone active civilizations. Finally, there still remains the unanswered question of where man originated - and for that, we have already seen, evolution cannot even attempt a solution. Our third alternative model to examine is by no means new - in fact it was the accepted model of the past long before uniformitarianism of geology came to the forefront. It is called Creationism, or Creation-Flood science, because it is based on the Biblical account in Genesis of the Divine creation of the world, life and man, and the world-destroying Deluge. What makes Creationism distinctive from the other proposed models is it teaches that mankind existed on the earth before most geologic strata were formed. What is more, he was created and lived as an intelligent, civilized being from the outset. The Genesis record describes how after Creation and before the Flood, the descendants of Adam - the Antediluvians - possessed an advanced culture that included agriculture, urbanization, the arts, metal-working and sophisticated engineering abilities. The Flood completely destroyed the Antediluvian civilization and the entire world, depositing the remains (according to Creationist-Flood geology) in a short time in the form of all the strata from Cambrian to early Tertiary. After the Flood, the first descendants of Noah built another civilization culminating in the technology that constructed the Tower of Babel. The remains of this post-Flood civilization, after the destruction of Babel, were swept away by the Ice Age disaster, and were preserved in the strata of the Tertiary-Pleistocene. The Creation-Flood model can thus accept the appearance of human remains and advanced artifacts in the geologic past, as evidence for pre-Flood and immediate post-Flood civilizations. Because of the cataclysmic nature of the Flood, and the abruptness with which the Babel-Ice Age disaster occurred, the Creation-Flood model predicts further that buried artifacts are probably few and far between, appearing as rare surviving remnants in the rock - which is the case exactly. Another upset in Creationism's favor is that, by its rejection of uniformitarian long-age dating of the earth's strata, it is able to explain remarkable similarities among the out-of-place artifacts, in diverse levels. For instance, we found several examples of giant human bones and footprints - in Tertiary, Cretaceous, Jurassic, Triassic, and Pennsylvanian rock. This would mean, in "accepted" geologic time measurements, the persistence of a very specialized life form - Homo gargantuan - over a span of 300 million years. There is no precedent for that kind of survival anywhere in the fossil record. But by viewing all these layers as having been laid down in a short time period, and by regarding the remains within as the remnants of one destroyed world, the various giant finds and their similarities are explained. In addition, the large bones and prints confirm what was recorded in Genesis about conditions before the Flood: "There were giants in those days, mighty men, men of renown." There is, however, one problem that Creationism must contend with. But that problem at least may have a satisfactory answer. It involves the presence of foot and sandal prints - and, for that matter, the prints of extinct animals - found in the fossil record. Dr. John D. Morris of the Institute for Creation Research, in San Diego, noted that in the case of the mantracks and dinosaur tracks found on the Paluxy river, there is a layer of sedimentary rock 8,500 feet in thickness underlying these Cretaceous formations. Now according to the Creationist model, this must all have been deposited during the Flood. The problem is, as Morris put it, "How could man and dinosaur witness such massive deposition at the beginning stages of the Flood and survive long enough to leave their prints so high up in the geologic column?" The answer may lie in an uplift of pre-Cambrian rock located just to the southwest of Glen Rose. The uplift shows only small traces of the deposits which covered the Paluxy area, which means it could have served as a refuge for men and animals during the first part of the Flood. The waters appear to have retreated momentarily, and the men and dinosaurs climbed down from their summit, to cautiously walk across the mud-filled Paluxy region, probably in search of food. It is significant that all the Paluxy man prints are clear impressions of the whole foot, indicating that the stride of their makers had been slow and deliberate, and not running, as the impressions then would have been deep prints of the forefoot only. The tracks also go off in different directions, as if the survivors had split their company to search over more ground. But just moments after the impressions were made, the Flood waters must have returned, sweeping men and creatures away, and quickly burying their tracks by new deposits - deposits which aided in the perfect preservation of the prints to this day. This particular scenario of waters retreating and returning may not only have applied to Paluxy, but to the making of the other fossil foot and shoe prints as well. Flood geologists note many examples in various sedimentary rocks of evidence for tidal water action. Some coal seams, for example, contain numerous layers of limestone alternating with carbonized vegetable matter (coal). These, the geologists say, were created by the "rocking" motion of a large body of water, that carried the remains of marine organisms at one end and land life on the other, and dropped portions of its two different loads with each surge, as it moved back and forth. Sometimes in these layers, coal appears directly on coal, or limestone on limestone, without the alternate material between - indicating a complete retreat of the waters temporarily, and then their dramatic return and deposition. Noteworthy is the fact that in the book of Genesis, Noah described the Flood waters as "prevailing upon the earth." In the Hebrew, the word used for "prevail" has the connotation, "a movement to and fro." Summarizing now the various models we have discussed, we find that: 1. The Uniformitarian-evolution-linear model is totally inadequate to explain the presence of human remains in the geologic record, as these remains are in direct contradiction to the model's premise of slow, progressive development from simple, primitive beginnings. 2. The Extraterrestrialist model is dependent upon the unproven existence of aliens from outer space, and rests on the false assumption that man himself could not have produced the out-of-place artifacts - even though they are in fact accompanied by human skeletal remains and imprints. 3. The Catastrophic evolution model presupposes the existence of a highly improbable number of destroyed civilizations to explain the buried objects, and cannot answer the basic question of the origins of man by evolution, since his remains are found as far back as the earliest fossil layer. 4. The Creation-Flood model offers a workable solution to the mystery of out-of-place fossil relics, which is also consistent with observable geologic phenomena based on a catastrophic premise. The model also explains similarities and parallels between out-of-place finds in diverse layers, which no other model can do. Based on these findings, then, we must conclude that the Creationist model is superior to all other models in supplying answers to the riddle of human remains and artifacts in the geologic record. These "strange relics from the depths of the earth," in fact, testify to the validity of the Creation-Flood model, and tend to prove wrong the major concepts of all other models so far proposed. Strange Relics from the Depths of Earth Part 1 Short Summary Dr. Jochmans cites numerous accounts of human artifacts being found in earth strata, which according to the standard evolutionary time scale, predate human evolution. These accounts show human existence far far back into earth history, and prove evolution theory false. Important Notes Although Dr. Jochmans writes "as though" human remains and artifacts are hundreds of thousands or millions of years old, is it is clear from his conclusion that he considers this world to be young, in accordance with a normal, straight, reading of the Bible and its genealogies. I do not have any background on, nor contact with Dr. Jockman. I cannot contact the "Forgotten Ages Research Society" of Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, which, I understand, originally published the booklet. This booklet was available through the Bible-Science Association some time back. Accepted theories and unaccepted facts In most of the academic and scientific world today, the interpretation of the history of the earth, of life, of man, and of human culture, is defined within the narrow boundaries of specific, prevailing theories. The geology of the earth, for example, is viewed almost exclusively in terms of uniformitarianism. This means that the present-existing processes of erosion and volcanism are thought to have been the only forces at work in the past. Because of the slowness of these processes of change, and the tremendous transformations observed in the earth's depths, the age of the earth is thus counted in billions of years - today, it is put between 4 1/2 and 5 billion years. Likewise, the history of life on this planet is seen as a lengthy development by evolution, or, the progression from simple to increasingly more complex forms. Since the simplest - and supposedly earliest - life forms appear in Cambrian rock, and Cambrian rock is dated geologically at 600 million years, this is deemed the age of life on earth. Only in the final stage of evolution did man appear on the scene, the ultimate end-product: According to the most recent anthropological finds, the earliest man-like creatures roamed the earth just 4 million years ago. Finally, the very nature of evolutionary theory dictates that man's cultural development must have been linear - a slow, gradual, but constant, upward climb from primitive beginnings, spanning the last 10,000 years, with the advent of modern technological civilization and its products the recent culmination of that climb. These theories, which together form the uniformitarian-evolution-linear model, have predominated modern science for the past century, to the extent that all finds made - every rock sample, every fossil, every human remains and every artifact - have been carefully interpreted and categorized so as to fit this model's framework, at the exclusion of all other. But it is becoming increasingly apparent that not all facts from the past find their "proper" place. Other discoveries have been made that contradict the accepted model. Yet these discoveries are largely ignored, since it is far easier for the majority of scientists and historians to uphold what is "established," than to try to build a new model based on the "exceptions." One of the greatest pitfalls of the uniformitarian-evolution-linear model is that it must accept the premise that man, as an intelligent being, was a very recent arrival in the history of the earth. With the geologic record counted in billions of years, the fossil record in hundreds of millions of years, the record of human fossils in the millions of years, and human civilization only in the thousands of years, there would be no way to explain the presence of human bones, or sophisticated artifacts derived from the hand of man, in deep rock strata. In fact, the finding of even a single such item would be totally devastating to the model, for it would negate the entire concept of uniformity, and the evolution of man and human culture in the past. The point that will be brought out in this book is that there is evidence for man, and the products of human civilization, in the deep recesses of the earth. Herein are presented the case histories. The bones of forgotten men Walk into any natural museum today, or read any textbook on anthropology, and one invariably finds a large chart exhibited, tracing the ancestry of man back through more primitive forebears, until the line is lost somewhere amid the apes. Recently, paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey, excavating in Ethiopia, announced the discovery of what are supposed to be the oldest accepted fossil remains of man - about 4 million years old. What has been disturbing about the new finds is that they are, in part, too human: Their great age, yet partly "modern" appearance, has forced evolutionists to push back the departure of man from the ape stock farther into the past, so that now it is beginning to infringe upon the time period necessary for the development of the apes themselves. But while the African finds are revolutionary, there have been other discoveries of human fossils greatly more important, but these have been deliberately neglected or denounced, because they are far older than man is "supposed" to be. Over a hundred years ago, in the 1850's, gold miners began digging tunnels into the sides and top of Table Mountain, northwest of Needles, California. Gold was discovered, but along with it were bones of extinct mastodons, mammoths, bison, tapirs, horses, rhinos, hippos and camels - all dating from the Pliocene. In 1863, a physician from nearby Sonora, Dr. R. Snell, began to collect specimens from the excavations. In that year, with his bare hands, he loosened from among the fossils a stone disc that appeared to have been used for grinding. But Dr. Snell was not the first, or last, to unearth mysterious objects from the mountain gravel: In 1853, Oliver W. Stevens made affidavit that he removed a large stone bowl from the lowest level tunnel; in 1857, the Honorable Paul Hubbs, of Vallejo, dug up part of a human crania from inside the Valentine shaft; and in 1862, Mr. Llewellyn Pierce also signed affidavit that he had found a stone mortar 200 feet in from the mouth of the same shaft. The most dramatic find, however, was reserved for a Mr. Mattison, one of the owners of the mines. In February of 1866, Mattison unearthed from beneath a layer of basalt an object which - because of the encrustation's - he first thought was the petrified root of a tree, but on closer examination discovered was a complete human skull. The miner sent the skull to the office of the State Survey in June of the same year. Eventually, the skull came into the possession of Dr. L. Wyman, of Harvard College, who removed the encasing material around the cranium. Dr. Wyman, and an associate named Professor Whitney, identified the skull as very modern in type, but also noted that, "the fragments of bones and gravel and shells were so wedged into the cavities of the skull that there could be no mistake as to the character of the situation in which it is found." The stickler was, however, that this meant the skull, along with all the artifacts found, were 12 million years old. In 1958, Dr. Johannes Huerzeler, of the Museum of Natural History in Basel, Switzerland, unearthed a human jawbone at a depth of 600 feet, in a coal mine in Tuscany, Italy. The bone had belonged to a child, between the ages of five and seven. Though flattened like a sheet of iron, the jaw was declared by several experts to be not only human, but modern-looking at that. But what mystified them was that it had been encased in a Miocene stratum - geologically dated at 20 million years. Dr. Huerzeler declared it to be the world's oldest man" - but his fellow anthropologists did not dare give it the same distinction. Here were human remains more modern in appearance than all the "ape-men" forms ever found - yet they were five times as old as any of them. In fact, the jaw bone is as old, if not older, than many ancestors of the apes. The bone raised more problems than answers - so the find was quickly "shelved," and no further work was ever done to give it due recognition. Early in November of 1926, archaeologist J.C.F. Siegfriedt made a discovery in another mine, this one the Number Three shaft of the Mutual Coal Mine of Bear Creek, 55 miles southwest of Billings, Montana. What Siegfriedt found was a human tooth, in which the enamel had been replaced by carbon and the roots by iron, by seepage petrification. In an account published in the Carbon County News and dated November 11, 1926, Siegfriedt reported that he had meticulously preserved the mineral matrix that had been deposited around the tooth, and several dentists identified the mold created as being a human second lower molar. The tooth, however, came from the lower level of the mine - from an Eocene deposit dated at 30 million years old. Siegfriedt could generate no interest in his find among other specialists, and as far as is known, no one has done any further study of the mystery. One of the more controversial of the "out-of-place" bones from extreme antiquity is today part of the collection of the Freiberg Mining Academy in West Germany. It is a poorly preserved human skull, found in brown coal in 1842, from an undisclosed locality. Early European authorities dismissed the skull as a fake, but more recent research and analysis has questioned this hasty pronouncement, putting it back into the realm of the authentic. The reason for its initial denunciation is understandable: The coal it was embedded in, a portion of which still clings to the skull, is estimated to be as much as 50 million years old. It seems that even when authentication is overwhelming, the response by the scientific community is, inversely, underwhelming. In 1973, a rock collector named Lin Ottinger was searching over a rock plateau that had just been bulldozed over, in preparation for the beginning of mining operations by the nearby Big Indian Copper Mine. The mine is situated 35 miles southwest of Moab, Utah. During his pickings in the exposed rock, Ottinger suddenly found pieces of bone and teeth, and traced these to a patch of sand with a brown stain - the tell-tale sign of decayed organic matter. Carefully removing the sand, Ottinger discovered the top portion of a large intact bone. The rockhound, realizing the importance of his find, decided to have a credited expert look at it, and let him do the digging, so that everything would be "scientifically acceptable." A week later, Ottinger returned to the plateau with Dr. J.P. Marwitt, professor of anthropology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, several photographers, a news reporter, and a number of observers. With cameras recording the event, Dr. Marwitt carefully removed the lower halves of two human skeletons. The bones were articulated - that is, laid out naturally - showing the bodies had not fallen or been washed into the stratum in which they were situated. These and other factors revealed the bones to be as old as the layer in which they were found. The one problem was, the layer is Lower Dakota and Upper Morrison formations -over 100 million years of age, according to uniformitarian geologists. Yet, as Marwitt noted, the bones were not simian or even half-ape: They were fully human and modern-looking. The skeletons were taken by Marwitt back with him to the University of Utah, to run laboratory datings on them. But whether the tests were ever run, there was no official confirmation. One gets the impression they were, and that the findings were too disturbing for conservative thinking. Marwitt suddenly became "disinterested" in the project, and left Utah to take up a teaching position elsewhere. After a year waiting for results, Ottinger recovered the bones - and that ended the scientific inquiry. More finds, made in the last century, were similarly reported, and promptly forgotten. The Saturday Herald of Iowa City carried an article that on April 10, 1867, human remains and artifacts were brought to light at the Rocky Point Mine, in Gilman, Colorado. At a depth of 400 feet below the surface, excavators found human bones embedded in a silver vein. Along with the bones was found a well-tempered copper arrowhead. As best as can be calculated, the vein in which the items were situated was 135 million years old, by present geological standards. ((SR. #2)) At times, the discoveries made revealed "mysteries upon mysteries." In July, 1877, four prospectors were looking for gold and silver outcroppings in a desolate, hilly area near the head of Spring Valley, not far from Eureka, Nevada. Scanning the rocks, one of the men spotted something peculiar projecting from a high ledge. Climbing up to get a better look, the prospector was surprised to find a human leg bone and knee cap sticking out of solid rock. He called to his companions, and together they dislodged the oddity with picks. Realizing they had a most unusual find, the men brought it into Eureka, where it was placed on display. The stone in which the bones were embedded was a hard, dark red quartzite, and the bones themselves were almost black with carbonization - indicative of great age. When the surrounding stone was carefully chipped away, the specimen was found to be composed of a leg bone broken off four inches above the knee, the knee cap and joint, the lower leg bones, and the complete bones of the foot. Several medical doctors examined the remains, and were convinced that anatomically they had indeed once belonged to a human being, and a very modern-looking one. But an intriguing aspect of the bones was their size: from knee to heel they measured 39 inches. Their owner in life had thus stood over 12 feet tall. Compounding the mystery further was the fact that the rock in which the bones were found was dated geologically to he era of the dinosaurs, the Jurassic - over 185 million years old. The local papers ran several stories on the marvelous find, and two museums sent investigators to see if any more of the skeleton could be located. Unfortunately, nothing else but the leg and foot existed in the rock. The next and last skeletal find takes us another quantum leap in geologic time, and plunges us even deeper into the earth's strata. A Scientific American article published in 1880 reprinted the particulars of a discovery made in the spring of that year, reported in the St. Louis Republican. Dr. R.W. Booth, who operated an iron mine about 3 miles from Dry Branch, in Franklin County, Missouri, unearthed from a depth of 18 feet a human skull, portions of ribs, vertebrae and a collar bone. With them were two barbed arrowheads of flint, and pieces of charcoal. Dr. Booth realized the significance of all this, but was frustrated when at just a touch the skull crumbled to dust, and the other bones likewise broke into pieces. But these pieces nevertheless told their story: Later analysis showed they were definitely human. Two and a half weeks later, Dr. Booth reached a level of 24 feet, and found more of the same skeleton - a thigh bone, vertebrae, and more charred wood. What is more, the remains were found resting on a layer of iron ore, which bore the impressions of coarse matting. One could still see the marks of criss-crossing fibers. What astounded Booth was that the layer in which both portions were dug up was the second or saccharoidal sandstone of the Lower Silurian - dated an incredible 425 million years old. Let me repeat that: 425 million years. We have gone far beyond the purported age of human culture, of man himself, the apes, all mammals, even the age of the dinosaurs. According to evolutionary theory, the Silurian age saw the advent of life on land and was in fact more than two-thirds of the way back to the supposed advent of life itself. But what are the remains of man and his products doing at this level? Something, certainly, is very wrong. Muddy footprints across the face of time Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington once wrote: "We have found a strange footprint on the shores of the unknown. We have devised profound theories, one after another, to account for its origin. At last we have succeeded in reconstructing the creature that made the footprint. And lo! it is our own." There is more truth in this statement than first meets the eye, for there are many instances where not only did man leave his remains in the rock strata, but also his imprint. In 1884, Earl Flint, a geologist representing the Peabody Museum and Harvard University, discovered in a rock quarry near Managua, Nicaragua, on the shores of Lake Gilva, a layer containing fossilized human tracks, 16 to 24 feet below the surface. Flint described the tracks in these words, written in 1884: "The footprints are from one-half to three inches in depth and none exceeded eighteen inches. Some of the impressions are nearly closed, the soft surface falling back into the impression, and a crevice about two inches in width is all one sees, and my first glance at some parallel to one less deep, gave me an idea that the owner of the latter was using a stave to assist him in walking. In some the substance flowed outward, leaving a ridge around it - seen in one secured for the museum; the stride is variable, owing to the size of the person, and the changing nature of the surface passed over. The longest one uncovered was seventeen inches, length of foot ten inches, and width four inches, feet arched, steps in a right line, measured from center of heel to center of great toe over three steps. The people making them were going both ways in a direction consonant to that of the present lake shore east and west, more or less." Among these, and others in nearby sites, Flint found examples of both barefoot and well-defined sandaled-foot impressions. All were geologically dated as being over 200,000 years of age. Now supposedly at this remote time, man was nothing more than a naked, hairy creature, capable of chipping a few flints and just beginning to overcome his fear of fire. In sharp contrast, the Nicaragua finds reveal the intelligent use of a walking stick, and the wearing of sandals that appear to have been best designed for both comfort and protection. We are confronted here with not just the footprint of a half-beast, but rather the footprint of a civilized being. Two years earlier, in the summer of 1882, inmates working in the quarry at the State Prison near Carson City, Nevada, brought to light a layer of sandstone covered with fossilized animal tracks, among them a number having belonged to the extinct mammoth. What caused considerable scientific consternation, however, was the fact that several human tracks were also found. The tracks were in six series, each with alternate right and left tracks. The stride was from two and a half to over three feet, and the individual prints were from 18 to 20 inches in length - that of a giant. The straddle - the distance between the lines of left and right prints - was 18 to 19 inches. Geologist Joseph Le Conte read a paper on the investigation done on the Carson City tracks to the California Academy of Science on August 27,1882, and attempted to explain them as the marks left by an extinct giant sloth that lived during the late Pliocene - over 2 million years ago. But sloths, in order to walk upright on only two feet, as the fossil tracks indicate, would have had to have used their tails as a balance, and there were no tail grooves in the sandstone. Not only this, but a comparison between the Carson City tracks and known sloth impressions showed several dissimilarities. The sloth's prints have marked toe protuberances as well as definite claw marks; the Carson City tracks have neither. The Carson City tracks, in fact, showed signs that their maker had worn some type of sandal or foot protection - very definitely not the habit of an animal. The May 25, 1969 issue of the Tulsa Sunday World carried the story of a curious fossil find made on a hilltop overlooking the eastern part of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The find was made by Troy Johnson, a field geologist of thirteen years' experience, and though he showed plaster-casts of his discovery to several experts, each and every one refused to accept it or its implications. Johnson had unearthed a sandstone strata filled with fossil tracks - many five-toed and distinctly human. The fact that a number of examples of these were overlaid by the tracks of now extinct creatures demonstrated that the mantracks could not have been of recent origin, but dated back between 3 and 5 million years. One remarkable mantrack find was reported in the Soviet journal (no. 8, 1961). In 1959, a joint Russian-Chinese paleontological expedition under the direction of Dr. Chou Ming Chen, discovered in the Gobi Desert of central Asia the fossilized print of a shoe with a ribbed sole. The find appears in sandstone dated at 15 million years. Members of the expedition who carefully examined the shoe-print were quick to recognize that it was not the footmark of any animal, for the ribbing was too straight and regular to be of natural origin. Even more recent examples of foot and shoe prints were brought to light in the 1970's, in the Carrizo Valley in northwest Oklahoma. The prints occur in both the Morrison formation and Dakota sandstone - over 100 million years old. The bare foot marks are somewhat eroded, but show evidence of definite pressure ridges. Several are in very close proximity to dinosaur tracks. The shoe prints are more clearly defined, and reveal their wearers to have been above normal size, with the imprints averaging 20 inches long and 8 inches across the ball of the foot. Probably the most publicized mantracks are those found along the Paluxy river, near Glen Rose, Texas. They were first observed in 1908, after a flood washed away a portion of shore ledging, exposing geologic levels of the Glen Rose Formation, the Paluxy Formation, and the Twin Mountain Formation of the Trinity Group - all dated to the early Cretaceous, between 120 and 130 million years. Interestingly, these same rock types occur at Bandera, not far from San Antonio, and there, too, human prints have been uncovered and documented. On the Paluxy, serious research into the mystery of the fossil prints did not begin until 1938, when Roland T. Bird, of the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, removed a trail of brontosaurus tracks that were alongside a series of what his eyes beheld with the "official" position, but admitted in the May, 1939 issue of Natural History: "No man ever existed in the age of reptiles although the tracks are perfect in every detail." Bird could only conclude that the prints he saw were those of some "extinct ape" - but this explanation was most unsatisfactory, since according to evolutionary theory, apes were not to appear for another 100 million years after the epoch of the brontosaurus. The Paluxy site became a tourist attraction, and during the Depression, locals began excavating both dinosaur and man prints, and selling them for souvenirs. Some of the specimens sold were really hand-carved by the more unscrupulous opportunists, and unfortunately in later years, conservative scholars were quick to point to these few examples of fakery as the answer to all the tracks discovered. But on-the-spot diggings by geologists and paleontologists have uncovered many new prints found in situ that could not have been hoaxes, for they were discovered deep within the rock layers, and at times several feet back into the Paluxy banks, where no fabrication could possibly be made. The sum total of finds along the Paluxy reveal quite a mixture of man and animal types having lived all at the same time. There are heavy brontosaur tracks, the talon marks of the feared Tyrannosaurus Rex, three-toed spoors of other dinosaurs - and the imprint of a saber-tooth tiger, which was supposed to have lived only a few million years ago, not in the era of the giant lizards. As for the human prints, many are found in series, popping out of the Paluxy banks in a very natural stride, then wading into the river bed. A good number of the prints are bare, with the large toe in particular clearly distinguishable; others show signs of the maker's feet having worn some form of foot covering, like a moccasin or thin sandal. in one instance, in fact, the fossil print is so well preserved that the impression of the lacing on the moccasin is still visible. Some human tracks are of men of modern stature, with shoe sizes from 7 to 13; others are of children, whose prints are both proportionally smaller and shallower. Several more, however, are 1 6-inches, with not a few of men with 21 and 1/2-inch feet and a 7-foot stride - giants in the true sense of the word. The most remarkable fact of all, however, is that these prints are in the same layer as dinosaur tracks, and in a few instances, the human and dinosaur prints cross each other, showing that the two had been contemporary when the rock had been mud. The significance of these examples was noted by Dr. A.E. Wilder Smith of the University of Illinois: "One authentic man-track found in the same stratum as one authentic brontosaurus track throws out one hundred years of evolutionary teachings. It is sufficient to bring the whole Darwinistic theory down and revolutionize all biology today." But the out-of-place footprints go back even further in geologic time. The American Anthropologist, volume IX (1896), page 66, describes the finding of a perfect human imprint in stone about 4 miles north of Parkersburg, on the West Virginia side of the Ohio river. The track was 14 1/2 inches long, and was found embedded in a large stone. Though few specifics were given, one expert has calculated from the type of rock depicted, and its position on the river's edge, that the track must be at least 150 million years old, according to modern geologic dating. In the late 1970's, Dr. Rex Gilroy, director of the Mount York Natural History Museum of Australia, discovered a giant impress on Mount Victoria. One tentative estimate puts the track at 200 million years of age. One of the most remarkable tracks was found in Fisher Canyon, Pershing County, Nevada. On January 25, 1927, an amateur geologist named Albert E. Knapp was descending a small hill in the canyon, when he spotted the fossil laying topside up among a pile of loose rocks. He picked up the find, and took it home with him. Upon closer examination, Knapp was astounded to discover, "it is a layer from the heel of a shoe which had been pulled up from the balance of the heel by suction, the rock being in a plastic state at the time." The shoe print was in a marvelous state of preservation - the edges of the heel were smooth and rounded off as if cut, and its right side appeared more worn than the left - suggesting it had been worn on the right foot. But what Knapp found really amazing was that the rock in which the heel mark was made, was Triassic limestone - 225 million years old - which runs in a belt through the canyon hills he had been exploring. The rock was later examined by an expert geologist at the Rockefeller Foundation, who confirmed Knapp's analysis. The presence of minute crystals of sulphide of mercury throughout spaces in the fossil also testified to it being of great antiquity. The real surprise about the age-old heel imprint, however, did not come until micro-photographs revealed that the leather had been stitched by a double row of stitches, the twists of the threads is very discernable. One line followed along the heel's outer edge, and the second line paralleled the first precisely, inwards by one-third of an inch. What baffled investigators was the fact that this double-stitching had been done with thread much smaller, and more refined in workmanship, than that used by shoe-makers in 1927, when the fossil print was discovered. As Mr. Samuel Hubbard, Honorary Curator of Archaeology of the Oakland Museum in California, commented: "There are whole races of primitive men on earth today, utterly incapable of sewing that moccasin. What becomes of the Darwinian theory in the face of this evidence that there were intelligent men on earth millions of years before apes were supposed to have evolved?" In 1885, Professor J.F. Brown of Berea College, Kentucky was called upon to examine a puzzling find, made 16 miles east of the town of Berea, on Big Hill in Rock Castle County, one of the spurs of the Cumberland Plateau. Near the summit, an old wagon trail cut through a stratum of carboniferous limestone, and removal of earth to widen the trail into a road had exposed a new section of this stratum. As E.A. Allen reported in the American Antiquarian, volume 7, page 39, preserved in the layer were the fossilized impressions of several creatures. What mystified those who witnessed the remains was that among these tracks were two well-preserved prints of a human being. They were described as "good-sized, toes well spread, and very distinctly marked." It was not until 1930 that further and more detailed investigations were performed, this time by Dr. Wilbur Greely Burroughs, head of the geology department at Berea College. Dr. Burroughs discovered a total of twelve 9 1/2-inch mantracks and portions of others, and confirmed that they had indeed been impressed upon gray Pottsville sandstone dating from the Upper Pennsylvanian period -well over 300 million years old. Several geologists and paleontologists of the conservative school, in search of a face-saving explanation, declared the tracks not to be of human origin, but the marks of some as yet unknown species of amphibian. (234 reads) Historic Caverns, Dungeons, and Labyrinths In this 'File' we will examine reports of ancient subterrain excavations, the very reality of which presupposes the existence of scientifically-advanced races which reigned perhaps thousands of years ago, excavations that had apparently been constructed before the deluge and, in some cases, following it. The account which we record below appeared in the Oct. 1947 issue of 'AMAZING STORIES' science fiction/science fact magazine, pp. 171-172: "Sirs: "Norman Finley, a neighbor of a good friend of mine, told me about an experience he had which was rather unusual. He and a couple of other fellows were hunting down in the Big Bend country. I don't know whether you are familiar with the Big Bend or not, but there is no more wild or desolate area in the country. Rugged, mountainous, cut by canyons, there are innumerable parts of it which have never known the foot of man. "It was in one of the most desirable areas that Finley and his companions found themselves. They had driven about ninety miles southwest of Marathon, Texas, a little town of about 700 people, at the foot of the Del Norte Mountains, 4000 feet high, and had then gone on afoot. The dirt road just petered out and they couldn't get their car further. They were hunting deer but had no luck. Just as they were about to call it a day, Finley spotted a mountain lion. He snapped a shot at it and knocked it over. But the lion just rolled over on his feet and started to leave those parts. "Finley and the other fellows took after him, since it was obvious that he was wounded and not making very good time. They managed to keep him in sight for about a mile and were sure they had him when he ran into a box canyon. The lion, however, started up a faint trail up one side of the canyon to a small cave they could see about a hundred feet from the floor of the canyon. They followed him up this trail, but when they got to the cave--there was no lion! "The cave was one of those dished-out affairs that are so common in the southwest. Eroded out of the face of a cliff and cup-shaped. The only access to it was by that trail. But this cave was a bit queer. It had a sand floor and was just about big enough to park twenty cars in it. On the cliff edge was a low STONE WALL. This in itself was not too unusual, because such caves have sheltered Indians for thousands of years. "The thing that did make it unusual was that in the rear of it was a perfectly round hole. It was obvious that the lion had ducked into this. "They approached it rather cautiously and tossed some stones in it to see if they could stir him up. But there was no response. They could hear the stones rolling and bouncing down an incline and the sound just got fainter and fainter until it died away altogether. "They then approached the hole and peered down into it. It was perfectly round--also it was about four or five feet in diameter. They couldn't see very far down it, but it appeared to descend rather sharply and at a steady gradient. The fellows gathered some dry grass from the canyon floor and made some torches. The incline of the bore was too steep for them to climb down so they tossed the torches down it. They just slid down further and further and disappeared into the gloom. They never did see or hear of the lion again. "At first they thought they had stumbled onto some old Spanish mine workings. But there was no sign anywhere of a dump that always goes with a mine. By all rights there should have been some sign of the earth and rock that had come out of that hole--but there wasn't. "When they inspected the hole itself more closely, they were amazed at it's symmetry and at the consistency of the section of the bore as far as they could see down it. The fact that the bore was perfectly round puzzled them, too. If it was a mine shaft, it most certainly wouldn't have been round, but instead would have been flat on the bottom. The fact that the shaft extended straight and unwavering as a rigid pipe was cause for further amazement. Since the fellows had no rope with them, which would have been needed to descend the shaft, as well as lights, they scratched their heads awhile and then left. "Finley wanted to go back with equipment and see how far down the shaft went and what was at the bottom of it. But ranchers are busy people and he never went back. In the meantime he got pretty well broken up when a horse threw him and he now lives in Fort Worth while he has someone else to run the ranch. We talked rather idly about having a look at his cave someday. He says he knows exactly where it is and could find that box canyon with his eyes shut. So far we haven't done anything about it. But we may either this summer or next when we get time to go down to Big Bend. "Finley told me this story about a year before even you heard of Shaver so you can be sure he wasn't influenced by the 'Shaver Mystery.' In fact, I don't believe he has ever heard of the 'Shaver Mystery,' even to this day. "E. Stanton Brown., ... Fort Worth 7, Texas." Another letter, dated Jan. 1948, appeared in 'AMAZING STORIES' magazine also confirming that strange 'para-speleon' phenomena exists in the western part of Texas. However the artifacts described in the following letter seem to involve areas north of Big Bend, not far from the Guadellupe Mts. and the New Mexico border. Perhaps this account is a partial confirmation of a subterranean connection between areas BELOW the Big Bend of Texas and the Guadellupe range of southern New Mexico - northwestern Texas. Quoting from the letter: "Sirs: "Since I have been an interested reader of AMAZING STORIES since my high school days (1929) when A-S was a bigger magazine, I feel like one of the family when I read the letters in the discussion pages. The temptation has arisen many times to write a letter to you concerning some hotly discussed matter, but something has always prevented me from getting at it. However, the October Issue pushed me too far, and here goes. "The mysterious cave Mr. E. Stanton Brown spoke of in his letter is not exactly news to me. In 1938 a party of six of my friends and myself spent seven months in that area of Texas, and upper Mexico. We were testing an electronic instrument that we had developed, and needed lots of space and some mineral deposits for the various tests. So, we got rather well acquainted with the Big Bend country, and the Figure 2 Ranch north of there. We arrived there in January and camped IN THE SIERRA BLANCAS, storing a lot of our equipment at the town of Van Horn. By march we had gotten deep into the rugged country and as I recall, it was about the middle of March we stumbled onto this cave (or a twin) that Mr. Brown speaks of in his letter. Everyone was so dumbfounded by it that we spent the better part of the rest of the month in making a thorough investigation. We penetrated the shaft to a distance of 870 feet and at about 650 feet found some very finely executed writing on the right wall at eye level, IN WHAT RESEMBLES CUNEIFORM. At 800 feet one of the party fell over a cloth lying in the dust, and upon closer examination, it was found to be part of a blue shirt, of fairly recent manufacture; indicating that someone else had been this far in recent times. This and an empty pint whisky bottle dated 1897 was all we located to indicate recent occupation. Of course in a country where desperadoes such as Black Jack, Billy the Kid, etc., hid out where they could and the more solitary the better, such a find was not too surprising. "At about 780 feet the floor dips more sharply downward and at near 900 feet progress is very hazardous due to moisture and increased slant downward. We carried rocks from the opening, and rolled them from the point where we could no longer walk, but they simply faded out with a rumble after a few seconds. We tried rolling flaming yucca stumps to see if, perhaps, we might determine more about the bore further on, but this proved to be futile, since the stumps burned poorly at best, probably due to bad air. It was very stuffy and hot after the first 300 feet from the opening. We held a powwow to try and figure out how we could go further down, but the only thing would have been lots of lariat ropes, or a long steel cable, and neither was available nearer than some 50 miles. "If Mr. Finley had taken the time to go hunting up in the Figure 2 Ranch territory he might have run across another, and to me more interesting, cave than the Big Bend one. About 62 miles (north - Branton) from the town of Van Horn you go through the salt-flat country, where the Salt Wars of the old west occurred. Westward, some 8 or 9 miles from the road is the Apache Canyon country, and as rugged as anywhere on the face of the globe. In an offshoot of Apache Canyon to the south, is an almost impassable gash called Hell Canyon. The walls of this canyon rise precipitously for at least 1000 feet and top out on Apache Peak on one side and an old Indian ceremonial ground on the other side. More desolate country would be hard to imagine. Coyotes and mountain lions are plentiful, and panthers no novelty. I have seen as many as 34 deer in a herd down below on the grassy ledge sloping down toward the canyon floor. Of course, further up toward the box end of the canyon it was much too rugged for deer, but a few mountain sheep are seen, (it was) in the wildest part of the canyon that the other cave was found, in fact we almost fell into it. The high grass about the opening hid the dished out entrance. "We were at an elevation of approximately 7000 feet and going was tough, especially with a pack, and we had stopped to rest when one of the party remarked that it 'sounded hollow' when any of us talked. Of course, we all yapped away at the same time trying to figure if this was so, and sure enough it was. Further investigation located the hole some six feet to the left of where we had stopped. It was roughly oval in shape, some 30 by 18 feet; and bridged in the center the short way by a natural rock arch heavy enough to support an elephant. In the center of the arch were 3 deep grooves caused we hazarded, by rope passing over the arch. We spent several hours in investigating the surrounding terrain to see if there might be any other entrances to the cave, but found none. It sloped sharply from the opening down about 200 feet, and then the bore disappeared, curving upward. We succeeded in getting down to the first level, by tying all our ropes together, and subsequently investigated a lot of it. "Threading through the soil were long stringers of quartz, but oddly enough at the same time there were chunks of rock as big as a piano that were solid masses of seashells. Quite a lot of pottery both broken and whole, was found. The most interesting thing was, however, that the farther we went the colder it got. Also there was a sound of either rushing wind or water, which got louder the lower we went. We came upon two human skeletons not over 500 feet from the entrance, but they must have been very old, as the bones crumbled at the touch. Everything was covered with a deep dust after passing the bend and no indication of any living thing having passed there was ever noted. It was very dark and depressing, and the chill was very penetrating. When you consider that the outside temperature was near 100 degrees, you can imagine how we were dressed. We had three flashlights, one a five cell, and after a while it was all that was left that would give a decent light. Down at what we estimated as 1200 feet from the opening we came smack up against a smooth stone wall. That was it. The end. None of us would admit it was natural, it was too smooth and perfect, and look as we would we could not find a single flaw or crack in it. It was of a marble-like texture and some eight or nine feet high in the center and around eleven wide. By placing our ears to the rock surface THE ROARING ON THE OTHER SIDE BECAME MUCH LOUDER, AND THE ROCK WAS QUITE COLD TO THE TOUCH. There was natural marble near there, in Marble Canyon, where marble was once taken out in large quantities, and so the rock was native rock, I'm sure. Since the remaining light was all we had except matches, we voted to get back to the opening as soon as possible, and after a hard struggle upgrade we got back to daylight and held a conference. We decided to bed down and talk it over further the next day, as it was getting late. "However, the next day we were inclined to look foolishly at each other and claim it was all our imagination thinking there was anything strange on the other side of the barrier, and it was just another one of those many caves in the country. Carlsbad is just 65 miles north of there, AND THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS NO DOUBT HONEYCOMBED UNDERNEATH. "We finished our experiments and left, late in July but I have never been able to forget the caves, and THE ODD SOUNDS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THAT BARRIER. Or for that matter, the barrier itself, for it was too perfect to be natural, I believe. Or, maybe I've just read too many AMAZING STORIES,' and am inclined to wild ideas. As the Mexicans say, Quien sabe? "Some day I'm going to write you a ding-how Scientifiction on something-or-other, and then place it and my rejection notice among my souvenirs. Maybe then I can go on reading AMAZING STORIES in peace, without wanting to dash off a dinger. "K. A. Gookin., Carmel Radio & Sound Service., Box 1865., Carmel, California." (Note: It is unlikely that the writers of the two letters which we have just quoted would be able to be reached at the addresses given. We've merely given them as they appeared in AMAZING STORIES magazine in the late 1940's. - Branton) At this point we will mention several miscellaneous items connected with paraspeleology, speleanthropology, subsurface phenomena and related subjects: A researcher by the name of Frank D. Adams has written on the result of his personal scientific experiments which may prove that giant cavities exist in granite at depths of more than 11 miles, conclusions which have also been supported by Louis V. King, a mathematician who calculated that, at normal temperatures, a cavity would exist at a depth of between 17.2 and 20.9 miles. The authors' findings are also supported by the recently discovered "16 Rouse Belts" which give planes of fracture penetrating the globe. Dr. Ron Anjard, in an article in the Summer, 1978 issue of PURSUIT Magazine, claimed personal knowledge of 44 underground cities beneath the surface of North America, six of which are alleged to be on the West Coast. His information allegedly comes from anonymous American Indian sources. When we relate this to the large number of migration legends (to and from cavern realms) which exist among the native Amerindians, then we may conclude that certain tribes still retain intimate knowledge of underground civilizations related to them via distant ancestral links. Some of the elders of these different tribes, others have suggested, may in fact maintain present contact with several of these cavern civilizations. There are some indications that some such 'tribes' literally moved underground as a result of the encroaching Anglosaxon civilization upon the America's. Similar allegations are made in relation to South and Central America as well. Interviews with survivors of a mine explosion in Dec. 26, 1945, known as the "Belva Mine Disaster", appeared in the Dec. 1981 - Jan. 1982 issues of newspapers in Pineville, Kentucky and elsewhere. The interviews revealed that some of the trapped men saw a "door" in one of the walls open, and a man dressed like a "lumberjack" emerged from a well-lighted room. After assuring the men that they would be rescued, the strange visitor returned to the room and closed the door. These "lumberjack-like" entities have been described by miners on other parts of the country and in other nations as well. There seems to be some confusion as to whether they are physical or paraphysical entities. A somewhat similar incident allegedly took place several years ago near Shipton, Pennsylvania. Of the three victims of this particular mine disaster, only two were rescued. However both described a similar para-physical encounter with strange 'men' who entered the caverns and gave light to the two trapped miners and told them that they would be rescued. They were uncertain whether the entities were humans or supernatural beings however, as much of their collective "hallucination" contained both physical as well as supernatural elements. The bluish "light" which illuminated the room, they said, was real, but other holographic-like visuals that appeared on the walls, when touched by their hands, either disappeared or revealed solid rock behind. R. L. Blain-Sanders, in an article titled 'TUNNELS AND CAVERNS BENEATH NEW YORK CITY,' which appeared in the Fall, 1981 issue of SHAVERTRON, described the author's knowledge of a large triangular system of tunnels utilized by a 'Masonic lodge', deep below the surface of New York City. Could this have any connection to the other 'rumors' to the effect that cavernous regions exist below Manhattan? For instance, in 1962 Con Edison, while drilling a test hole in the north of East River Park, New York City, broke through to open space about 200 feet below. Also, there are the allegations of Morris Doreal that the Church of St. John the Divine in New York was built over ancient tunnels leading to a dome-shaped city abandoned by antediluvian 'Atlanteans' and later, apparently, re-established by post- deluvians. Then we have the accounts of thousands of people who have literally and mysteriously disappeared off the face of the earth in and around New York City. Raymond Bond, in an article titled 'SUBTERRANEAN SAUCERS - GLOBAL NETWORK OF UFO BASES', which appeared in SAGA'S UFO ANNUAL 1980 (Brooklyn, N.Y.), described caves within Mt. Sombrero in the Tampica area of Mexico, from which sounds resembling those made by 'hydroelectric generating equipment' can be heard. Also, inhabitants of the interior of Mt. Kilimanjaro were also described. Kilimanjaro is one of the highest peaks in Africa. Bob Borino, in his article, 'UFO BASES FOUND IN ANTARCTICA' (Globe, Jan. 18, 1983) quotes from certain scientists who believe that a subterranean UFO Base is located beneath the strange 'Polynya Sea' in the Antarctica's Weddell Sea region. Malcolm W. Browne, in his article 'UNDERGROUND TUNNELS THREATEN TOWN IN HUNGARY'S WINE COUNTRY' (NEW YORK TIMES, Nov. 8, 1967, p.2) tells of over 60 miles of ancient tunnel systems of unknown origin and purpose which have been discovered beneath the town of Eger, Hungary, some of which have collapsed. The civilization which built the tunnels must have been fairly advanced in engineering and science in order to create such a subterranean system. Karl Brugger, in his book 'THE CHRONICLE OF AKAKOR' (Boohi Tree Books., Delacorte Press., N.Y., 230 pp), gives the history-- as given to the author by one of their chiefs--of the Ugha Mongulala tribesman, whose ancestors were allegedly part of a vast empire which covered South America in ancient times. Some of these ancient people, the chief claimed, left the planet in aerial vessels to explore other parts of the solar system and beyond, leaving behind vast subterranean cities beneath the Andes mountains and western Brazil. In 1971, due to the constant encroachment of white settlers or invaders into their territory, 30,000 survivors of the Ugha Mongulala allegedly escaped to this ancient system of underground cities, consisting of 13 separate subterranean complexes all connected by tunnels, one of which is said to extend to Lima, and others of which are located throughout the Andes Mountain range of Peru. Michael Burke, in his article 'GREEN THING SPARKS RUMORS' (THE VALLEY NEWS DISPATCH, New Kensington, Tarentum and Vandergrift, PA., Mar. 5, 1981 issue) described a small creature, allegedly 'half humanoid - half dinosaur' which was seen emerging from a sewer tunnel in New Kensington. A group of children chased the infant or young dinosauroid creature, one of them momentarily grabbing it at which point it let out a squealing or screeching sound, and then slipped from his hands and escaped back into the sewer tunnel. This incident took place some miles west of Dixonville, PA., where in 1944 several miners were killed or turned up missing as a result of encounters with 'alien' creatures in one particular mineshaft there. Any connection? SAGA Magazine's 'UFO ANNUAL - 1980', P.4, under the heading 'CAVE MARTIANS', described a bizarre encounter with subterranean creatures which seemed to have consisted of some type of automaton-like forms, perhaps on a reconnaissance mission from an underground civilization. The story involved a tunnel near Xucurus, Argentina(?), some 90 miles from Buenos Aires. The tunnel was discovered by agriculturalist Gerardo Cordeire, and found to contain nine connecting passages and strange inscriptions on the walls. From it's entrance "men nine feet tall, green, with antennas on their heads, and square legs" were seen to emerge, and which, according to HUNDREDS of witnesses from the town and nearby locals, resembled enormous "portable radios." Dr. Earlyne Chaney, in an article titled 'ODYSSEY INTO EGYPT', in her occult-oriented magazine VOICE OF ASTARA (May, 1982) tells of a discovery she and researcher Bill Cox was shown in Egypt. These were two tunnels, neither of which had been fully explored. One was in the temple of Edfu between Luxor and Cairo in the ruins of El Tuna Gabel; and the other near Zozer's Step Pyramid at Cairo near Memphis-Saqqarah, within the tomb of the Bull, called "Serapium". The Egyptian government sealed both tunnels because of fears of certain archaeologists who alleged that they "lead too deeply down into the depths of the earth," and because they found the earth to be "honeycombed with passages leading off into other depths," and the possibility of explorers becoming lost. If such labyrinths do exist, then it may explain one story which alleged that men dressed like "ancient Egyptians" have been seen deep in unexplored tunnels near Cairo, as well as possible confirmation of the story which appeared in Nevada Aerial Research's 'LEADING EDGE' Publication to the effect that the U.S.(?) Government secretly maintains a huge base within a cavern of tremendous size (several miles in diameter) beneath the desert sands of Egypt. Could this tie in with the vaque references to a subterranean society(s) referred to by certain people 'in the know' which is/are known as the 'Phoenix Empire' and/or the 'Gizeh People'? Articles in the WASHINGTON STAR-NEWS, July 25, 1973 and Aug. 15, 1973, tell of the discovery of an unexplored network of ancient, artificial tunnels during construction of a parking lot in Crofton, Maryland. Subsequent construction covered the tunnel entrances before the system could be completely investigated. Leon Davidson, in an early issue of 'FLYING SAUCERS' Magazine, spoke of a large network of "underground tunnels in the California desert, at Camp Irwin, near Barstow." This may tie-in with an item related by a Los Angeles municipal water director, as related in an early issue of Richard Toronto's SHAVERTRON letter-zine, stating that this water director knew of 5 large underground rivers which ran beneath the Mojave desert, and that die-traces showed that at least one of these emptied into the Pacific ocean through openings in the continental slopes (One source stated that such a river exited in the Gulf of California. Other sources speak of a "Kokoweef" river-system which is alleged to lie below Kokoweef peak just east of FORT Irwin, which looked- -according to it's alleged discoverer, a Mr. Earl Dorr, and a few "Indians" who also claimed to have been in it--like a "Grand Canyon" underground. It allegedly consists of a river chasm generally 500 ft. wide and over a thousand feet high-deep, sided by steep tiered-shelved underground cliffs, huge stalactites and cataracts. Also, the alluvial sands on the 'beaches' along the river, which allegedly hold a large percentage of gold dust, are said to be several feet deep. The entrance to this cavern was allegedly dynamited shut by Mr. Dorr to protect anyone else from getting to "his" gold. There is in fact evidence that Dorr did dynamite shut the lower level of 'Kin Sabe' cave in Kokoweef Peak, and there are present-day attempts to break through into this underground system. The water of the river allegedly rose and fell with the tides, suggesting that a very large body of water might exist upstream, that is if Dorr's account as well as the accounts of the Indians were not fabricated). The municipal water director, according to the SHAVERTRON article, spoke with a man who claimed that he was hired several years ago by the government to look for water sources for Ft. Irwin. He alleged to have explored an old mine in the area and found that deep down, the shaft intersected with an ancient earth fault or chasm- like cave which continued horizontally for a considerable distance. This government employee followed the chasm and allegedly emerged onto the bank of a huge underground river-cave over a quarter of a mile wide! The tremendous water flow-- possibly originating from the waters that apparently disappear beneath the Great Basin, the Nevada and Mojave deserts?--could have 'fed' the water needs of all of Southern California. Paul Doerr (not to be confused with Mr. DORR referred to above), in issue number 6 of his Newsletter 'UNKNOWN', related the tradition concerning a race of human giants which, according to stories in the Carolinas islands and especially Papua, allegedly went underground in ancient times. Once inhabitants of a lost island-continent called "Chamat," they will, according to legend, one day emerge. This legend is wide-spread throughout Malaysia, which incidentally contains the largest "officially recognized" cavern chamber, the "Sarowak Chamber" on the island of Borneo in the Malaysian islands. It is said to be 230 ft. wide by 980 ft. long and nowhere less than 270 ft. high, large enough to easily hold within itself the two previous contenders for the world's largest OFFICIAL chamber - Carlsbad's "Big Room" in New Mexico and the "Salle de la Verna" in the Pierre Saint- Martin caverns in France. Yankee stadium could fit in one end of the Sarowak chamber with room to spare! The same issue of 'UNKNOWN' also reports on the discovery of massive caverns in Toulumne Co., California, by three Oakland miners. The caverns were so extensive that a man would have to "take grub for a week, and plan to explore for a month." The 'BOOK OF DYZAN', which has been translated from ancient manuscripts, tells of intellectually sophisticated humans from an ancient earth-born society who abandoned the surface of the earth, "depriving the impure human race of their knowledge," and leaving in flying craft to rejoin their land "of iron and metal." 'FAR OUT' Magazine's April, 1982 issue carried an article titled, 'BOTTOMLESS PIT FOUND ON THE OCEANS FLOOR'. The article tells of a huge man-made opening in the ocean floor between Panama and the Galapagos Islands, which scientists say receives a constant flow of ocean water which is being sucked through the hole and into the crust beneath the ocean floor.
